"who are you?" loop

So the issue is that when I am playing a game and my controller dies or I turn on a different controller it asks me who I am and gives me a list of profiles on my xbox. Now this seems normal, except when I choose my profile, it pops up again with the same
prompt asking who I am. This seemingly continues forever unless I sign out or exit the game. Is there something im missing or some way to fix this?? Note: this occurs primarily when Im playing NBA 2k17, which is especially annoying because any change of profile
takes you to the front menu and ruins any progress

I would try to do a power cycle on the console: You will need to press and HOLD the power button on your CONSOLE until the LIGHT turns OFF. Next you will need to unplug your console from the wall and wait 2 minutes. After the 2 minutes are up restart the
console.

If this doesn't work try making a new save with out mods (If you play with mods)

If it still doesn't work try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it.

Hey there! How is your console connected to LIVE? If wireless, are you able to try connecting via an ethernet cable directly to your modem? This would just be as a test.

 

If it's a Xbox live profile delete the profile only and redownload it then reboot the console
