White Xbox One controller has wireless range of less than 5 feet

I just purchased a new White Xbox One controller and connected it to my Xbox for the first time tonight (Xbox One, 500GB, still under warranty; not a One S console). I'm extremely disappointed as I quickly discovered the controller will lose connection
to the Xbox if I'm not in direct line of sight on a parallel plane as my console, and less than 5 feet away from my console. The light will remain on, but the Xbox does not respond to any buttons pressed until the controller reconnects when it is within three
feet of my Xbox. I have three other regular controllers (black with audio jack) that do not have this issue and function normally. I've followed all the steps in the "wireless controller disconnects" guide on the support page, but that has not resolved my
problem. How should I resolve this problem?

Xbox one S controller freezing constanlty

I just bought a brand new Xbox one s battlefield one bundle and from the moment i turned it one my controller has been freezing for no apparent reason. Literally fresh out of the box it froze multiple times during the initial setup for the console and has
proceeded to get worse. I cant use it for more than 5 minutes tops but it almost always freezes less than a minute after reconnecting. i sit within 5 feet of the Xbox and it is not hidden or blocked by anything.

Disconnecting Controller? Please sign this petition which is being sent to Microsoft

my controllers are fine if im playing in the same room as the console (about 10feet away from it). if i move into my other sitting room right nextdoor sitting about 8 feet away with wall in between i get constant disconnects and same if i sit in my bedroom about 10-12 feet above the xbox constant disconnects. had to run an active usb extender to hard connect the controls to play in these other rooms. never had this issue with the xbox 360. i have updated controls but hasnt helped. anyone having similar problems? i thought the controller range should have been better than the 360. nothing in my setup changed apart from 360 to xbox one.Click to expand...

Sounds like the 8 feet plus a wall should be do able as the Xbox support page says the controllers are designed to work within 9.1m (30 feet) but things like walls might affect the range - Xbox One Wireless Controller Disconnects | Can't Sync Controller to Console

I sit about 8 feet from my console with a sofa and coffee table that could be affecting line of sight between the console and controller and use to get constant disconnects with prior to the firmware upgrading to 2 (each firmware release that mentioned helping disconnects has helped reduce this up until version 2).

Maybe anything getting in the way drops the WiFi Direct signal right down.

Hey there CinnamonYeti,

It sounds like there could be a hardware issue with the controller if you've already been through the guide. Since you just purchased it, we'd suggest reaching out to the retailer and exchanging the controller as long as it's still within the exchange period.
I'm sure that'll resolve your issue.

You're both wrong.

The Sawed Off wont realistically kill from 20 feet (if you do experience that then it's lag plain and simple).

The Sawed Off will kill you at 5 feet. By design. This has been shown by multiple examples via video evidence by splitscreen, eliminating lag as a possible cause. It had its down ability removed and its gib range increased from beta. There's been both rear
view and side view videos showing this. I've even tested this myself.

Oh i kno i was wrong... Didnt mean 5 feet was in a rush and never bother to correct myself i meant more like 10-12 feet but my point was that he was exaggerating the whole 20 foot crap

Sawed off has a gib range of 5 feet. With lag that range can certainly extend to 10 feet. The Retro and Sawed off dramatically reduce the games fun factor. 27 damage points per a non active Retro shot? Come on. They did reduce the Gnashers range for
Gears 3. A 15 foot strafe battle will take no less then 3 non-active shots to down. Two melee downs again? Like the game isn't easy enough as it is. Gears of War welcomes the Call of Duty players with open arms obviosly.

We have only 1 controller for each, they are in the same room about 5 feet apart, she has Xbox one X and I have an Xbox one S. The guide on the Xbox says to go to a certain help selection call Console and Accessories but it doesn't exist and the videos on YouTube that tell you how to fix it don't work either. The controller disconnects and flashes twice before reconnecting, sometimes it is less than a minute between other times it is hours. It happens after we updated the consoles and controllers recently

The wired connection works, it's the wireless that is the issue. There has never been any disconnects before, I'm less than 5 feet away from the console (but I held it close to test and same result), and no new devices have been setup nearby. I am hoping this isn't a hardware issue. I tried testing my Xbox with everything else unplugged and it still didn't work. There hasn't been any change and only wireless works (I need wireless because I don't have cords).
