  1. Which External HDD you using?

Ok, just got off phone with Western Digital support and they told me not to get a external drive over 2tb that the Xbox one will not support anything over 2tb, But Xbox announced we can go up to 16tb. So, my question is what HDD are being used and size?
Any conflicts or problems? I am thinking of going with either WD or a Fantom drive in maybe a 3 or 4tb but want to be sure they work before I buy one, or do I need to stay with only a 2tb. What format will Xbox one be formatting drive in, WD seems to think
Fat32 and they say that is why I can not go bigger the 2tb because Fat32 is not supported for anything over 2tb?

So, help me out here and tell me what the world is using or what Xbox recommends?

    :)

    Hey there Doon!

    1. Which USB ports have you tried the external HDD in? Front? Back? Both?
    2. What version of USB does your external HDD use? 2.0? 3.0?
    3. Are you able to put some movies from your external HDD onto a USB drive that's formatted for your Xbox 360 console and try playing the movies from there?

Let us know and we'll work with you from there! ^_^

  4. Which External HDD you using?

I'm using a Seagate Backup Plus 2TB 3.0 usb external hdd and I haven't had any problem at all. Below is a copy and pasted article for info on external hdd and FAQ.

A 256GB or larger storage device with USB 3.0.

Note: Any brand/drive should work, as long as it's at least 256GB and USB 3.0.

Note: You can connect up to two storage devices at the same time

Note: If the storage device is connected via a USB hub, it needs to support USB 3.0.

Note: Both USB powered and AC adapter powered will work.

    External Storage FAQ

Q: What can I install on my external storage device?

A: You can install games, downloadable content, and apps on your storage device.

Q: Can I store game saves on the external storage device?

A: No. Game saves are automatically stored in the cloud and synced to the Xbox One console.

Q: Can I use the external storage device for music and video playback?

A: No. For the initial release of the external storage feature, media files, including music and videos, are not supported. We are considering this for a future release.

Q: Can I copy or move a game from my internal hard drive to my external storage device?

A: Yes. Check out the content management features by going the Manage page for the game or app.

Q: Can I use my external storage device with my PC as well as my Xbox One?

A: No. The external storage device will be formatted for use by the Xbox One console only. PCs won’t recognize the drive partition created by the Xbox One.

Q: Can I re-format my storage device from my Xbox One console?

A: If you'd like to remove all content from your storage device and start over, you can re-format your storage device on the Xbox One. To do this, go to Settings>System>Manage Storage, choose the external drive you want to format, and select Format. After
this is done, the Xbox One will treat it as a brand new drive.

Note: Formatting causes the storage device to wipe all data.

Q: Do I need to bring my game disc while roaming with my storage device?

A: Yes. The external storage device does not change the licensing for games, so if the game was installed from a disc, the disc is required to play the game.

  5. Well, took a shot and went to my local Best Buy and bought a WD 3tb external HDD and hooked it up, Xbox one found it and formatted it and moved my games and stuff over and everything is working perfectly so far.

  6. I use Western Digital as well, and have the newest passport ultra. It is fast, and loads games are a bit quicker, less heat from Xbox one as well

  7. They're probably saying that because the Windows OS doesn't support anything above 2TB without UEFI support. They're assuming the Xbox One is just like a Windows PC. WD is just trying to cover their *** and play it safe by telling you not to go above 2TB.
The truth is they don't really know what Microsoft has set as the upper limit.

The Bios does not have to support UEIF as long as you are not booting off of a 2TB+ drive. All you need is Windows 7 or newer which supports the GPT boot record to run anything 2TB+ as a slave.

I'm using a WD My Passport Ultra 2TB Portable External USB 3.0 purely because it doesn't need it's own power supply and is powered from the USB port.
