So am I the only one that once again feels lied to when almost a year after launch and nothing else has been mentioned of a "digital trade in store" for your digital X1 games? I feel as if they just hinted toward it to keep launch numbers up and now hasnt
breathed a word of it since...wtf is going on? Why shouldnt we be allowed to trade in digital games? why do we have to give up consumer rights just because we want to go digital? This all seems to be shady to me...bait and switch tactics.

    :)

  2. Finally Pre ordered Titanfall.

Today I went down and finally pre-ordered Titanfall. I left it so late because I did not know whether to go digital or get the hard copy. Decided to go for the hard copy because of time it would take to download the digital version and it more than likely
being more expensive on the Ms store. A heads up to anyone Gamestop are doing a deal where if you trade in certain games you get it for €20. I traded in Dead Rising towards it. Are you going digital or getting a hard copy?

  3. Digital Download codes coming soon

digital rights STILL need adjusting...and where is this digital trade in store option MS rumored prior to launch to help sales? I guess talk is cheap..but it still makes no sense to limit consumer rights just because they want a digital copy vs physical...biggest
scam in this country and others right now..no consumer rights with digital.

We just had a thread about this a couple days ago.

It's a legal issue regarding ownership. Unless a bunch of people can come to a mutually acceptable financial agreement it'll never happen...."I'll see you in court" is more than likely what we'll see for years to come.

  5. There was never a guarantee that it was ever going to come - MS only ever said that they were working on it. That doesn't mean that they will succeed. Be patient; things take time. I'm sure they've already got a lot on their plate as is.

  7. i dont really feel "cheated" as I do baited n switched, kind of like they never had the intentions of making this work just said they were looking into it to silence the debate on ownership of digital content...its all legal mumbo jumbo that people state
we have no rights to digital content but its the ethics of the matter...why should people have less rights over something they paid real cash for...sure lawyers were bought and paid to make it this way...still doesnt make it ethically or morally right. This
will only make me more apt to pick up used copies at a fraction of the price and then the developers see none of my money. If thats what they want then thats what they'll get. I'm not cheap, I'm just careful with my money so too much of it doesnt end up
in some greedy overweight anti-consumer's piggy bank to store away and say he/she has X amount of money *evil laugh*. Corporate america sucks.

..If I remember correctly... and I am pushing 50 so my memory is not what it used to be... Digital trading and selling were going to be part of Xbox's original concept in the "always online" world. After the change was forced upon Xbox, due to the feedback
from gamers, that part was removed. However, we were told that Xbox would look into it again to see if it would be possible to add in the updated policies and Operating System now that the Xbox is no longer "always online with 24 hour check in".

Summary: It was that 24 hour check in which was going to allow for digital trades/sales, to see who owns the license, with that gone, so was the original idea. Xbox did say they would like to bring it back if they could figure out how.

I'm still confused to why the "always online" or "24hr check-in" is being blamed for the backlash. Anyone who has Steam knows that when they attempted it the plan would have only required you to be online during the actual license purchase/transfer which
    makes sense.

The reason the plan got scrapped is that MS couldn't explain the plan where it made sense from a financial standpoint for everyone involved. Talk of 3rd party retailers handling the transfer, no talk of what the developers and publishers would be getting.....to
    many questions, no answers.

These are businesses, they don't do anything for free. Digital trading and sharing would be great from a consumer point of view ( at least until the developers went bankrupt) but I don't see an upside for the businesses involved other than MS using it as
    a marketing tool.

If my memory is correct, it was the ability to gift the game once and they were looking into select retailers to buy your "discs". I don't recall them saying anything about selling digital purchases at first; only starting "mentioning" it could be a "possibility"
when the reveal went so horrible. It's been awhile since the reveal, so MY memory might be fuzzy. I do believe whatever they were thinking DID revolve around that 24 hour check-in though.

    Peace, J.R.

  14. "Why shouldnt we be allowed to trade in digital games?"

I have read elsewhere that you do not actually "own" anything so you have nothing to trade in. You are just licensing the right to use the game.

And the above is not intended to be one of those types of comments. I just do not see how you can "trade" something you do not own if that is the case. No reason to let anyone trade in that case. Only benefit would be allowing older games be traded in
for a few $$ discount on a new game to help increase digital sales.

"It was that 24 hour check in which was going to allow for digital trades/sales, to see who owns the license, with that gone, so was the original idea."

Easy solution. Require a game to have to check in once to verify ownership. To go digital you have to be online anyway. And if I sell it my account loses the rights to the game. That is the thing with digital and they way they have this set up.

    1. Digital games are tied to console and account.

    2. To sell a game you would have to be online so that would eliminate your license at that point.

Now, one could bypass this by selling on another console but keeping the original offline. Two things:

    1. To purchase a new game on that console you would have to go online. Thus you would then get the license check for content and it would be removed and no longer work.

    2. They could require the sell of license to happen only on the console of purchase or current console the license resides on if a license transfer has occurred. That would mean no selling a license and still using it. Of course the purchasing gamertag
would have to be logged on to sell. And they could even add a passcode for protection so someone's kid did not accidently get them logged in an sell their games.

Still I have to wonder if they will ever happen. I do not see the profit in it for them. And without that I do not see why they would do it. They may though. And if they do I would have to believe it is something truly for the gamer and for good customer
    relations.

Also, and not sure if they have something like this, but I would like to see game sharing. Not full on permanent. Just a situation where, say, I buy a game and like the online. I want a friend to play but she/he does not have the game and is on the fence
or not even considering purchase. I can go in and "share" my license with her/him for a certain amount of in-game mp gaming. That way I can get them trying it. And we all know that having friends in the match can make it more fun. Could increase sales
for them and that would be a nice digital purchase feature.
