Where Has All The HD Space Gone?

So here's a breakdown of my games and the space they're taking up:

Battlefield 4: 35

COD: 41.1

Child of Light: 2.3

Crimson Dragon: 6.8

Dead Rising: 24.7

Fifa: 9.5

Forza 36.5

Killer Instinct: 4.7

Lego Marvel: 6.3

Metal Gear: 4.5

Need Speed: 16.5

Plants vs Zombies: 12.6

Peggle : 2

Ryse: Son of Rome: 34.5

Strike Suit Zero: 1.8

Spider-Man 2: 9.8

Titanfall: 16.9

Trials: 4.9

Wolfenstein: 44.5

Zoo Tycoon: 2.6

That's a total of 317.5GB taken up with games.

But... It says that only 25GB are left.

That means that my total disc space for games
is not 500GB... Not 400GB... but
342.5GB.

I've had to remove "Tomb Raider" and "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag" from my HD so that "Wolfenstein" would fit.

"Watchdogs" comes out Tuesday and I'm going to have to delete games I don't want to delete from the HD just to play that.

Really frustrating and the fact that "Expandable Storage" is 'right around the corner' is both a blessing and a curse because while everyone is suddenly breathing a huge sigh of release it's going to cost another £50 - £100 to expand your current storage.

Nowhere near enough room!

Uninstalling and Reinstalling Digital Games

Yes, The save games stay on the HD, so when you reinstall the game, you can start back up where you left off. I run out of space all the time LOL.

 

Question about 4 gigabyte console hard drive upgrade

I recently plugged in a 250gb HD, and "Moved" everything from the old 4Gb drive to the new one. All games ask you to select where to load from, and where to save to, also profile were moved and all work just fine.

Now.... what to do with all this space -

 

The operating system takes up about 138gb

 

^ It's not just that. Microsoft define units for information in base 2 rather than base 10 in their operating systems.

Typically:

1 GB = 1 Gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes

Microsoft use:

1 GB = 1 Gibibyte = 1,073,741,824 bytes

This is why HDD spaces show you a total capacity less than you expect. For example on my PC, Windows says my 1 TB HDD is 931 GB because it's using GB as Gibibyte not Gigabyte.

 

Sorry Leet, it sounds like you're mixing up a Gigabyte, which is 1024 Megabytes, with a Gigabit Ethernet connection which is supposed to have a connection speed of 1Gbps, which would be 1,000,000,000 bits per second.

It's 8 bits in a byte.

1024 bytes in a kilobyte.

1024 kilobytes in a megabyte etc...

See if it was me, I would of made the console 638GB so that we actually got 500GB to use. I know its trivial and I wont moan about it, but that's just what I would do.

 

HDD on the One is simply not large enough. Should have been 1 or 2 Tb

 

@ Cloud...It's not trivial at all pal because that's what they should have done. Either that or marketed the console as a 350gb HDD machine but they couldn't do that because of the competition. Once again M$ have pulled our pants down!

 

1TB would of been a perfect move. I was kind of expecting it to be in the TB but no doubt they will release a redesigned model somewhere down the lines with 3x the space we have lol.

Ma7, thanks and you are right they should of pushed it as a 350GB. I can see now why my space filled up so fast. I keep forgetting the OS takes up so much space.

 

It's terrible that it's such a small hard drive...sure we are getting the external hard drive option this month, but like it's already been said. No doubt that a new console with a bigger hard drive will come out eventually, and if I remember correctly,
we can't swap hard drives on the X1 (confirm?) so it's live with externals or buy a new console :/

 

Nah,you can't swap hard drives on the One so buying an external hard drive is the only option at the moment.

 

I said this elsewhere but wouldn't it be nice if we could buy TB cloud storage and just use the cloud to install our games and such or at least have it as an option or is that too much space for cloud?

 

people are moaning about the hdd being small, just take a minute to think about those poor poor people on ps4, they can swap the internal drive but the max that can be fitted currently is 2tb but xbox we can attach 2 externals and at a theoretical 16tb each,
please hold a minutes silence for the ps4.
