    Where did my other installations go after creating a new one?


    I created a new installation to update the mods I've been using and when I went to install the version I had to sign in (For the second time in 10 minutes) when I signed in all my previous installations I had weren't there and with it all my worlds from previous versions. I specifically made sure not to delete any of these other installations after creating the new one so they aren't in the recycling bin. I've also checked the saves folder in the Minecraft directory and but that only has the world I just created. Is there a reason these other installations have been deleted or is this just what happens when you update the game? If it matters, I was using curseforge to make sure the mods were in the right folder but that only changed the new installation I had just created.

    Wow, that's really odd

    I'm thinking another options to try:

    1. Try creating a new local user on your account and see if the error persists there

    2. Are you installing the games on the C: drive? Or another drive?

    If it's another drive, did you already changed via Windows Settings where new content is going to be installed?

    If not, please do it. If yes:

    2.1 Create a new NTFS partition and select that new drive as "where new content is going to be installed" and try installing a game on that partition

    3. Try going back to Windows 10 creating a bootable USB drive with ISO file:

    (You can try creating a new NTFS partition and install there Windows 10 to test how it goes)

    No, I did not. All I had to do was download a new copy from Minecraft.net. I could sign in with my Microsoft account, but the record of my purchase was still there. I downloaded a new copy and installed it fresh, without any old copies of Minecraft in the applications folder or in the Library/Application Support folders. I did keep a copy of the "saved" folder from the old setup because that's where my existing worlds are. I can go back into the new installation and drop those old world files in the new "saved" folder in the new files that were created in the new installation.

    Are you trying to install onto a different drive? I was pulling out my hair trying to figure this out. I eventually fixed it by following these steps:

    • Open Windows Settings
    • Go to System
    • In the left hand list go to Storage
    • At the bottom of this page go to "Change where new content is saved"
    • Set "New apps will save to" to the drive you are trying to use.
    After I did this viola it started to install games again. This was of course AFTER spending my entire morning doing every other troubleshooting step I could relating to this app. Don't know HOW Microsoft fails at the most basic things

    If the hard drive uses a different format file as NTFS, you may need to do it.

    The other option if available is create a new NTFS partition using the free space in case you didn't want to lose the games in there (by the way, if those games are from the Xbox app on the other PC, the other PC is not going to recognize them)

    In case you want to try creating a new NTFS partition :

    After that, select the new partition as where new content is going to be installed via Windows settings > System > Storage

    I can't download pc gamepass games to my external ssd D Drive.

    We can try create another partition, then designate that new partition as where new apps are going to be installed and finally try on the Xbox App to see if now you're able to select the new drive.
    (Don't forget to create the new partition as NTFS?

    In case that you was able to select that new partition, the best option would be format the desired one as NTFS and assign that drive to install new apps by default again
