When will we have the next generation of gaming?

Just putting this out for discussion ....... Is anyone else out there getting seriously jaded with the lack of next gen content for the next gen consoles. I own both xbox one and ps4 and it's the same for both. Pretty much everything that's been released
so far is either ports of last gen games or games that have been designed.to also run on last gen consoles. As a gamer I'm still waiting for the string of releases which will justify owning the new consoles. Fortunately I hung onto my last gen machines, so
I've not really lost out but I'm seriously disappointed with the current gen offerings over a year after buying the consoles. It just feels like we're been sold down the river especially when been fed "remastered" two, three, four year old games at top dollar

    :)

I think the characters from Fragglerock could have conceived a better next generation console than the pile of Xbone we have shoved down our throats.

I know it seems like there are just nothing but ports and re-releases or remasters. Eventually we'll see a rise in new games, it'll just be a while. I do hope they kind of slow down with all of the remasters and re-releases. The whole point of a new console
is to play new games, not re-released games from a couple years ago or sooner.

No, I have 36 games for my Xbox One alone. I have 4 re-mastered games. This gen has had more games including exclusives released early in the generation than the previous gen. Some users need to understand that this is a new generation. Not an extension
or continuation of the 7th Gen. I am satisfied with my Xbox One and my already large collection of games.

  6. I'm quite satisfied with what we have so far. Forza horizon 2 is outstanding, the master chief collection is done very well. Dance central and titanfall are aight. And I'm looking forward to Halo 5. Like Nxtdoc, I'm very satisfied with my Xbox one.

I don't even want to think about another round of consoles. It was hard enough to give up my beloved 360.

When will we have the next generation of gaming?

I have a similar amount of games to the Xbox Ambassador above, but my perception of their content is slightly different. I can count on the fingers of one hand those that are designed exclusively from the ground up to run on Xbox One i.e. unfettered by considerations
of compatibility with old hardware. Whichever way I look at it, this is disappointing nearly a year and a half after the first Xbox One rolled off the shelf. Maybe I'm recalling the transition from OXB to 360 with rose tinted glasses, but I swear there was
far 360 oriented development by the middle of 2007 to what we have now .... and whichever way you cut it there is definitely a reliance on "remasters" in the industry at the moment. I really hope they ramp things up over the next few months, but I'm not holding
    my breath.

Can not really disagree with ya KillerAC. However, I will add a touch of my perspective which I do believe to be the case.

The Original Xbox was a new brand that introduced a new service. The transition to the 7th Generation was a clean slate for the next generation. There was indeed cross generation games on Xbox 360. But Xbox pulled the plug on the original Xbox development.
While the competition continued to support their product for much longer (because they had a much larger 6th generation base they had to support).

The Xbox 360 is still going to be supported for the foreseeable future. But developed for separately on certain games. Rise of the Tomb Raider for example. Which is a good and bad thing. The Xbox 360 is a fantastic console.

We have to remember that Xbox is still a baby in the console race.

  10. I'm starting to be of a similar opinion to the OP in regards to the re-releases, at first I was actually excited for a lot of them and it was good being at the start of the consoles life. Though now that I have experienced games specifically designed for
the Xbox One, I realise how much better they can be.

I'm not in the same mind about justifying the purchase as it's already fully justified to me. Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5 and Sunset Overdrive are all titles that have some of the highest play time for me.

  11. Good thread OP.

The original Xbox had a lot of ports all through it's span. The 360 also... It's nothing new for companies to use remastered titles and the like to drum up extra revenue before finally seeking to develop/market AAA games and the like.

Only this time around, that sucking the pockets approach could, IMO; actually wind up biting them.

Fair point Digital Assassin. I guess you're right - those games do justify the purchase of the Xbox One by themselves. It's noticeable that all bar one are launch releases. It's just a shame that the initial surge (which was pretty much a marketing imperative)
does not seem to have been maintained. However, the next few months will tell I suppose - I'm particularly looking forward to Arkham and Halo 5. I just hope we will soon be seeing a higher percentage of current generation only releases.
