When will Dolby Vision be available? And how will it work?

To be more specific regading how it works. Is Dolby Vision going to be enabled on the whole system? Or only when apps and games have it programmed in?

What happens with a 4k blu ray disc if it has a Dolby Video encoding, how will it play?

I have an Xbox One S and a 4k TV (Vizio P). I regularly use the One S to play 4k UHD blu ray discs and it's great. However, I've noticed some discs are now coming with Dolby Vision encoded discs - which I understand the Xbox one does not support Dolby
Vision output. What will happen if you get a 4k Blu Ray disc with a dolby vision encoding if you try to play it in the Xbox one S? Will it output in HDR, or will it default to non-HDR output?

For example, Star Wars the Last Jedi is a disc encoded in Dolby Vision, rather than UHD.

PS I understand lots of folks want the Xbox to support Dolby Vision in the future - but this question is specifically focused on what would happen right now if you put a Dolby Vision encoded disc in. How will it play?

Dolby Vision on One X

When will Microsoft patch the One X to support Dolby Vision on the 4K Blueray player and in games? Sony just released the Dolby Vision patch for my XBR900F 55 inch and I can honestly say movies on Netflix look so much better in Dolby Vision then they did
in HDR10. Enabling Games and the Blueray player to run in Dolby Vision would be a significant upgrade and would definitely give them a solid edge over the PS4 Pro.

 

Hi! As far as I know Dolby Vision is not supported by Xbox One (according to this page: HDR on Xbox One X and Xbox One S ). If the team will add it, like HDR10,
developers would have to implement it into their game to make use of the feature.

 

Games and apps will depends on developers, what depends on Microsoft is Xbox Live, O.S, it's owme games, but when You are having trouble Xbox Support try to solve problem.

 

Microsoft has released a statement saying that Dolby Vision will only be available for streaming apps and it will not be supported by games. The Xbox Insider Alpha Skip Ahead team which includes myself just started testing it this week. Keep in mind we are
testing updates scheduled for release in 2019. Nothing more definitive and testing can change release schedule to the general public dramatically. And very few TVs support it. Samsung for example will not use it on any of theirs.
