when the xbox is turned off does it give off sighal?

When the power is off, the console will not transmit anything, although it's up in the air, whether the HDMI port communicates with your HDTV, to make sure handshakes are good.

Xbox has two off modes depends on which you use. If you Xbox is set to instant on then yes it is sending/receiving data in order to maintain updates while you are not using it. If you set the Xbox to fully power down then its completely off.

Does the Xbox give any error messages or anything like that upon boot up?

Does it just turn off as if you had turned it off yourself or does it show an error message or anything before turning off?
