What practice? If you have a fast internet you can play new games, like Gamefly. Honestly, if you're that bent out of shape having to pay to play older game for such a service and you know that backwards compatibility isn't possible hardware wise this
gen.....then:

.

1. You should have kept your older systems

.

2. or you should go out and buy the older systems.

.

By the time you do all those older games and systems (for example a PS1, PS2, PS3 + all those games you want to play) you probably would have had enough for 2 years of this service.
Me? i'm not bent out of shape at all. I have my 360. i've used it once since the X1 launch to play magic with a few friends for an hour. outside of that 99% of my gaming time has been on the X1. I Like old games, i do. But I really have no interest in paying
to play one i've already beaten.
No Burst. You made good points. We just have a different way of looking at it.

2. Download speed minimums are for the most part meaningless. Latency is the primary issue and will be a problem for anyone who doesn't live near the data centers. Me for example, I play with ping test in CMD and Speedtest a lot when bored. I've pinged servers
all over the country so am pretty familiar with my averages. My download/upload is 40/10 advertised, 30/5 on test with capable servers. I've had as low as 1/0.75 a lot of companies really skimp on servers/connection. My pings tend to be 10-100 for west coast
based, 50-125 for middle America, and 75-200 for east coast.

.

You can have a 100/100 connection and it's meaningless if the server you're connecting to is a 10/10 or overloaded with traffic to save the company money. Sure your data hits them quick, so quick packets probably expire and get resent before receiving the
receipt confirmation, but your client has to hang out waiting for the 10Mbps response which easily can add up to 1/2/3 +/- second delays from your button press to the game actually doing it and updating your screen. If the server is 1000 miles +/- away the
wait/ping gets even more exciting.

.

Now obviously Sony will use stronger than a 10/10 connection but mileage and traffic have strong potential to be problems (PSN doesn't have the best performance track record). Latency is the ultimate battle and it's out of Sonys hands really, shy of spending
billions building data centers all over the intended launch countries there is nothing they can do about the Ping time. All they can do is hope for fiber like we're all doing. Fiber is rolling out, but it isn't happening quickly. If you live in an area with
fiber and a Gaikai data center is within a few hundred miles the service will probably be mostly enjoyable (unless you try multiplayer). But a large percentage of gamers do not fall into that demographic. Do enough fall into it for the service to remain financially
viable to Sony? Time will tell.

.

I personally think it'll soon be seen as an overhyped, underperforming forgettable and rarely used feature. Microsoft's numbers show that only 5% of users took advantage of backwards compatibility. Now sure people argue that there are Xbox 360s that never
got online so there is a small unknown number of additional backwards compatibility users, but their console never got online... Wtf are they going to do with a streaming service?

.

Now if they could ever get it to where you could reliably stream gaming over 3G/4G or crappy hotel WiFi to your phone/tablet/handheld then the market would do very well. But in home only? Are you really going to play Uncharted 3 over Uncharted 4? The only
game I can see getting playtime is GTAV, but that'll be from people who were to broke/cheap to buy a PS4 without selling their PS3, are they really going to want to pay for an additional service over PS+? Some of them, maybe...

fair enough. I'm not saying people shouldn't be optimisitc about it. I'm saying that its not this surefire hit that will be huge.

@ICN3D It was totally possible. Only gamers would've profited from it financially so both companies left it out. Presumably to make more money off us. coughPSNowcough.

-

I did keep my older systems so no need to buy them. My PS3 plays PS2 and PS1 games btw. When they took the BC out they told me that they didn't want me to buy another PS3 and I haven't.

-

I'm just not paying again to play my games that I already own on newer systems. I'm not surprised you are buying into this terrible idea though. I already have all the games for the old systems (barring a few Tales games but that's because they haven't released
in the US yet) that I want which further makes this program useless.

-

What's even funnier is that gamers hated the idea of developers getting paid multiple times for used copies but are ok paying multiple times to play copies of games they already own. How does that work? Glad i'm not gullible.

-

What we need is a rental service that let's us download NEW games and the game license expires after a set time limit. That would be something to get hype about.

6. PS Now is a terrible idea. Seriously, its really terrible. Honestly, if they could have spent all their time and money on that, it should have been actual BC support.

If you plug your 360 into the Xbox one that would be better than streaming and you could still play 360 games.

For me I don't understand why people are so excited for the streaming service for Playstaion. The reason why I bought an Xbox one was to play the new next gen games. I don't have any interest in streaming games on my xbox one that are old 360 games. If
I wanted to keep playing my 360 games I would have held off buying the xbox one. I still have my 360 but don't play it anymore. I guess I completely miss the point of this streaming service. We are in the next gen trying to play last gen all over again...
PASS.

9. Another point. In a year or so when there are tons of new games out for the PS4/ XBox One no one is going to be playing old 360 games anymore. Everyone will be moving on. Same with the PS4 people. Why spend more money on a streaming service to play last
gen. You know the streaming service once it goes live is not going to be nearly as good as playing from the console itself just wait and see.

10. Well, not no one. If the current gens trends stay true then about 5% of next gen owners would be playing old games.

I will add that Nintendo is not near the same position Sony is in or Sega was in when they gave up on consoles. Nintendo can weather a failed console. But if they don't start doing some turning around or rethinking of things, they will end up like Sega where
they might have to do something drastic like pull out of consoles (I think as long as their handhelds do ok though I don't think they have to worry as much about being in Sony's position right now). But they aren't at that point and they have time to turn
things around and stay in the console market. They just need to realize this before it gets to that point.

This needs to happen. Nintendo needsto get out of the console market, stick to handhelds and selling software. Their IPs would sell on PS and Xbox easily
No, no they don't. Nintendo needs to start focusing on their next console and pull a Sony, make a big deal about how they actually talked to developers and more importantly *Listened* to what makes it easy for them to develop for a console. Have developers
talk about how it was really easy/great to work with Nintendo. THey really need to turn around their rep of Nintendo for Nintendo only games. Either that or not make their console as expensive next time (it's priced way too high for a console that you can
really only play for one publisher's games. Yes, Nintendo has a good rep for their games, but it still means a limited market for your console).

The Wii U was just not a feasable idea. It's too expensive for a console that is pretty much only good for one publisher's games, but the specs are too weak due to adding in that tablet hardware to really compete with the next gen consoles (Even MS made the
One competitive even though they wanted to add some other features to it). Add in that the Wii may have sold a lot but I think it also did a lot of damage to Nintendo cause it really solidified their reputation of having a console that won't get third party
games.

So they need to turn that rep around or realize they have a low price point they have to aim for if they really just want to sell to only Nintendo fans.

Personally I hope they do the try to get more third party games. Mainly cause I don't care for MS, and Sony while their PS is doing well, they aren't doing well. So Nintendo may be my final hope in the future if I want to avoid MS's BS policies (or just stick
with old gen gaming). But I want a console for 3rd party games, not Nintendo games. And if you really want MS to have a monopoly, you have way way way too much faith in any corporation nevermind MS (who has shown they will try to make customers deal with it
if they think they have a de facto monopoly) that they won't take advantage of that and it won't be in your favor.
