    when is the cloud coming?

From what we know (and I've been keeping close eye on all X1 news since it was announced), it's not used for graphics directly on any game at this time. However, this doesn't mean that the cloud wouldn't have a positive impact on graphics, as when the console
can offload something to the cloud, it frees resources for other things on the console.

    .

That said, we know that up to 300ms, some lighting/shadows are easy and viable to do client side. At 400ms or so it starts to look off, but 300-400ms is very generous for any civilized internet connection these days. But this isn't streaming graphics, it's
about cloud having do the calculations and send the results back.

    :)

    E3 2014!

I know what the "cloud" is or isn't, but it was interesting how last year it was the cloud, the power of the cloud, the cloud, the cloud, cloud.....

This year they just stated "servers", I said long at the time when everyone was getting wet about the cloud that it meant nothing. I also stated technically all EA games have run in the "cloud" as they are run on servers based away from the user. An cloud
is not a "buzzword" cloud gaming started many many years ago with onlive.

    cloud xbox gold?

From what I was reading when I first started to use the Cloud storage,

If your Gold expires, you have read-only access to your Cloud storage, but no write, so yes, you can then copy your save files back to your hard drive from Cloud Storage.

And yes, the cloud storage files are saved to the hard drive, the upload to the cloud appears to happen when the XBox is off, since turning on the Cloud storage, my XBox often does the 'background download/upload" when powering down.

Forza uses the Cloud for AI. Which apparently allows resources to be freed up so the game runs at 1080p. But wait a minute, Without access to the cloud (offline), the game runs at 1080p, So that would mean, the cloud really isn't doing much but uploading
    and downloading drivatar data

BT tested some broadband in London this week. It hit speeds of 1.4 terrabits per second, apparently enough to transmit 44 uncompressed HD films per second. I'm sure that in a few years time, when much higher speeds are the norm, cloud computing will be much
    more utilised.

Its not a sprint its a marathon. Just because a lot of people don't have fast internet now doesn't mean a lot of people won't have fast internet later. However, I feel the cloud future was gutted before release.

Burst axe makes an important point, it's not the first time MS is looking years ahead. However I don't think the primary concern is necessarily internet speeds but more so the latency. And quite a bit of people (especially in the US) have limited amount
of traffic per month, which X1 is already very good at eating at a fast pace already when is the cloud coming? :p

  12. The cloud will be more used as the XBO advances. It will allow games to off load things in games that are less important and will not notice due to any potential lag issues allowing the XBO to use more of its resources on important things. It gets very complex
if you read into all the advanced tech specs. It has not even been all announced. It will only get better and better.

[/quote]^^ Fingers crossed that you're right.

I'd just like to add that the cloud, although a huge advancement in regards to consoles, isn't actually something you're likely to really "see" per se'. So, if & when it does get better (& I'm sure it will), you may not actually take notice of it at 1st. We've
already noticed snippets of it here & there with things like Forza Motorsport 5's drivatars, but I think it'll largely come in more small snippets over time & as a result, before you know it, it'll simply be there in place as if it had always been there &
have no real fanfare in the process. So, don't give your hopes up - it likely is coming, but don't go setting your expectations too high. You just might end up disappointed.

  14. Yes, CustomGamer, All True,

    -

But in gaming, there isn't a lot that can be offloaded to cloud, Lag is a nightmare for any game on any console. Doesn't matter what it is in a game, if there is lag, it causes issues.

    -

Especially is games are going to an always online action state. Like Titanfall, Destiny. Any Lag in those sort of games, and you are going to be at a disadvantage. Can you imagine Lag in Titanfall, when you have AI on your Team. (Especially if your internet
is at bare minimum speed for Xbox One) And the other person has 60meg fibre Optic Broadband. You know what it's like when it's Human vs Human on the same servers

    -

You may think that devs will take this into consideration, And they probably have, But people when playing consoles will always have different download Speed, Ping, Nearer or farer from servers, Bandwidth, Usage caps. All of these affect the Cloud. And is
why it will never deliver all of what Microsoft promised. It will take countries years to ensure that everywhere that has access to X1 has the best broadband available for a cheap price and unlimited.

    -

I wish them all the best in the endevour, and cannot wait to see what actual uses they give it. But with all their hype before the release. They made it sound like the console was going to be 4x more powerful, and be an all singing, all dancing monster.

We'll guys the cloud can be used to offload data that if lagged won't effect the gameplay. Now we have seen the weakness of X1 GPU that it is not able to deliver a rich environment in a game while maintaining a 1080p/60Fps however if the environment is
not rich nor complex X1 delivers 1080/60. This is where the cloud can come in handy, offloading rain or fog or leaves any kind of data that if it lags it won't impact the gameplay will reduce the amount of computing power on the GPU allowing it to focus more
on delivering 1080/60. Moreover with the immerse power of the cloud the offloaded data can be so overwhelmingly good that it might make games really stand when compared to the competition
