When is it too old to play games?

I'm a 30 year old gamer and actually just picked up my Xbox One and was debating whether I was too old to get one! This thread is great to know that mature gamers still enjoy gaming!

Well maybe a year or two after but still.

And no sign of slowing down!

 

You find the the average UK gamer is 35-year-old married men, who plays for 2.5 hours five days a week, each week. We of a certain age grew up with every generation of game and console available from the Atari 2600, NES Megadrive etc. I still miss going
to the coast just to play the latest arcade games.

The over 30's is the main target audience. Age should never be a factor keep playing until you cant or YOU DONT WANT to not because people tell you to. (or the wife threatens divorce lol)

 

When they prise the controller from your cold dead corpse at the age of 103, then it will be time to give up gaming.

 

I don't think you can be too old either, i tell my mum and her mates playing zombies on cod is basically playing space invaders with really good graphics =P

 

Age is never an issue. I'm only 26, but sometimes I feel "too old" to play, when in actual fact it's not that I'm too old, it's that life keeps me so busy I feel like I don't have time to enjoy playing. I have a wife, a daughter, a full time job and I barely
manage to find time to see friends.

Logically I could knock gaming on the head and consider it a good move, but it wouldn't be the right decision. Gaming is my hobby, my passion. I'll never be too old for it. Life just gets in the way sometimes. I don't think this problem is exclusive to gamer's,
it's just that gaming is tarnished by the media as being "for kids" so adults under pressure see as a willing thing to sacrifice to make life easier.

 

Turned 40 this yr and don't have any notion of stopping. Its like the music i listen too could be seen for the younger generation. But its still the same DJ's in there 40s-60s now like Sasha ect showing how its done!!!.

 

It's my birthday tomorrow. Will be 39. And like a lot of the other gamers here, have been playing on consoles that the younger gamers would not even be able to imagine. I have a 3 year old and he gets annoyed at loading screens. I think it would blow his
mind if he were to see an Atari 2600 or a game being loaded by cassette on a C64. Like others have said, a hobby is a hobby. And gaming is an expensive hobby. Fingers crossed we are now in a position in life where time, not money is the reason we don't game
as much as we would like.

But yeah, I'll be gaming for a long, long while. My son and I game together now, which is weird and wonderful. But also aggravating, since that little guy does not listen to directions. Try playing Marvel: Ultimate Alliance with a guy, when you need to get
from A to B and he wants to veer off to locations E, D or F! Hashtah aggravation!

 

I have had some people make snarky comments in regards to me gaming but I just point out that there are more worse things out there that I could be doing. I have been gaming since the 80s and I have no intention of stopping. I see myself old and wrinkly
with a controller in hand and a glass of wine in the other

 

Adding to my post earlier in this thread, I turned 50 last month and will be gaming until whenever, it`s entertaining and I enjoy it.

Keeps your mind active and your responses quicker that average (according to some recent university study) unlike just sitting there watching TV.

My father still games every now and again on his original Xbox and he turned 80 earlier in the year.

 

As far as I am concerned you are never too old to play games on any console

 

Never too old! even my dad is a keen gamer- and hes 60!
