    When is 5.1 surround coming to optical for headsets 2018?


    Just curious when the Xbox One is going to step into the optical side of audio beyond stereo for headsets ?

    Considering most decent headsets are half the value of the console would be nice to hear the same magic as are eyes see.

    5.1 surround question

    Not going to work. The Xbox One currently has zero support for Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1. It only supports Stereo, Uncompressed 5.1/7.1 (which isn't Dolby Digital), and DTS Digital Surround over HDMI. Your headset doesn't accept DTS and optical cannot support
    uncompressed 5.1/7.1 (not enough bandwidth).

    It's best to wait for Dolby Digital support to be added. It's coming.

    Optical Surround on the Xbox One? When?

    It actually does support great 5.1 surround with optical threw the DTS Digital surround option. DTS is actually better then dolby but alot of headsets dont support DTS.

    This is one of my main gripes so far. We buy a next gen console and some how we are back to stereo...what is this 1998?

    True They added it for home theaters but alot gamers wear there gaming headset and want 5.1 surround sound. we don't want simulated 5.1 or 7.1 in order to be next gen it's not all about graphics audio quality is equally important . 5.1 dates back to 1976

    5.1 is already out for optical. i use astros and i get 5.1. just set ur optical to dolby digital in settings

    I use bitsteam out under the optical audio options just fine with my TB X42 headset. When is 5.1 surround coming to optical for headsets 2018? :)

    What geek said. Microsoft has already provided a dolby support update for the console I have the turtlebeach x42 which has 5.1 dolby surround sound I can tell the difference between stereo uncompreesed and what x1 was like without dolby and ive had x1 since
    launch.

    Dolby Digital via Optical has been there for months. Under Settings, Display & Sound, set Optical Audio to Bitstream out and then set the Bitstream format to Dolby Digital.
