When I turn my Xbox One S on the fan doesn't spin then it overheats

    Hi Alfie,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Xbox console. I understand that the fan does not spin, reason why it overheats.

The best way to avoid game crashes or freezing is to make sure the software on your Xbox is up to date. Follow the steps below to check for updates.

Select the Home button in the center of your controller.

    Select Settings.

    Select System.

Available updates will be listed under Console info.

If your system is up to date, I would recommend that you perform a power cycle to reset the console's power supply, kindly follow the steps below.

    1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

    2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 50 seconds.

Important: Make sure that you wait at least 50 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

    3. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Sleep mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Sleep mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

Allow me to add 3 things that you might want to consider:

    1. Ensure your Xbox One console is in a cool, well-ventilated place. - Make sure the console is free of clutter and that no vents are obstructed

    2. Inspect the power cable—Are you using the right one? It should have been included with your Xbox. Also, is the power cable completely and firmly connected to both the power outlet and console?

    3. Check the power outlet—Does anything else power on when connected to the same outlet? Try plugging in another electronic device to see if it works. And if you're using a power strip or surge protector, make sure it's receiving power through its outlet too.

If none of the previous steps resolved the problem, your console may need to be checked on a hardware level. Submitting an online repair request is the fastest and least expensive way to get your console repaired.

Get started on your request by signing in at https://support.microsoft.com/devices and selecting Register new device. After you've registered, you’ll see the warranty status for your device.

Please see this link for help submitting a repair request.

My xbox 360 slim keeps overheating.

Hello! It turns out one of the fans (may be more) are not spinning at all even after it overheats.

Xbox keeps getting half red ring of death

Hi there! Have you checked on the fans? If they are not spinning or they are not turned on when the console is plugged in, the console will overheat and cause the half ring. Check that and also check to see if the fans itself is dusty or dirty. Oftentimes,
if the fans are dirty, it won't spin, causing your console to overheat.

You can also just let the console sit a while with the power cord unplugged. Rarely, you console will just overheat due to excessive usage. Let it sit a while.

My Xbox One S Keep going on and then off!

Man, I've had the same problem for a couple of weeks now, it turns on and then off after 7-10 seconds later. The fan keeps spinning but it doesn't overheat, it remains cool. Sometimes it will turn on but after awhile it freezes and I have to turn the Xbox
off and it goes back to the same thing. I just wanna play my xbox bro is it too much to ask for?

    Hot Xbox One

You have to be careful using third party fans, if the external fan makes the internal Xbox One fans spin faster than they are supposed to it could possibly damage it and causing more harm then when it's a bit warm. Alternatively when not spinning fast enough
it could cause hot air to be trapped inside making the Xbox overheat faster
