when i sign into Microsoft account, it says "this Microsoft account is associated with a different Xbox live profile. Try a different account."

i deleted my profile, rebuilt the profile, and it didn't help. got the same message.

At the top when In the link
https://support.xbox.com/my-account/microsoft-account/change-email-sign-in-for-microsoft-account you can sign into your account and change the email address associated with your gamertag name.

Each 360 account can be associated with a Live account.

Currently I have:

old 360 account -> associated with my Live account but with the old gamertag

new 360 account -> associated with my Live account but with the new gamertag

The new account got created when I downloaded my profile using my microsoft sign in. The old account was associated with the same microsoft sign in but it didn't recognize my gamertag change. Now it won't let me sign in to live because it asks for my microsoft
sign in details. I'm guessing the sign in fails because it's trying to find the microsoft account associated with the old gamertag.

I either need to somehow transfer my saves over to the new 360 account so I can upload them to the cloud, or I need someway for my Xbox to realize that my gamertag changed on the old account so I can sign into live again with that account.

You should refer to the link A Bamboo Eater posted. Changing the Microsoft account associated with your son's gamer tag will transfer all information to the new account (gold status , profile data, Microsoft points etc)

To change your Microsoft account

1.On your Xbox 360 console, sign in using your son's Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2. Go to Settings and select Account.

3. Scroll right to Your Information and select Account Security.

4. When you account information is displayed, select Change Microsoft account.

5 If you have another Microsoft account, select Yes, I do. If you do not have another Microsoft account, go to login.live.com to sign up for a new Microsoft account.

6.Enter the password for the Microsoft account that is currently associated with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

7.. Enter the email address and the password for the new Microsoft account that you want to associate with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

8 Select Yes, change to change the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox LIVE account.

9 Select Update Contact Information to update your contact information or select Done to finish.

Thanks for the assist, so :

- Yes, I can connect with both Microsoft accounts on "accounts.live.com/"

- Yes, I do all the steps described in "support.xbox.com/.../manage-microsoft-account" for "Link your gamertag to another Microsoft account"

On the X-Box, it almost works, i sing in with both account, but on the final step, when it ask "Do you want to associate your gamertag from Account #1 to Account #2", when I say "Yes", then an errors pops up saying "Invalid email or password, check and
try again".

I'll do a step by step so you can see what I do :

- On the X-Box : Sign in to XBox live

- Go to Parameters -> Account -> Account Security -> Change Microsoft account

- Do you already have another microsoft account to switch to -> YES

- Enter the password for the microsoft account currently associated with this XBox Live Account -> OK (It connects succesffuly after pressing Sign In)

- Enter the microsoft account you want to associate with your Xbox Live Account : I enter the e-mail, the password, and I press sign in -> OK

- Do you want to change the Microsoft Account associated with your XBox Live profile ? (It correctly indicates the current ID and the New Id and tells me that some MS points will be transfered). I Press "Yes, change" then :

- A window appear : "Xbox Live : the email address or password you entered isn't valid. Please try again"
