when hard drive is connected xbox won’t turn on.

when my game hard drive is plugged in my xbox won’t turn on and if i turn it on while it’s unplugged then plug it in it turns off aswell. i’ve tired all usb plugs on my xbox and have tried to do a hardware update but nothing seems to work

no i haven’t done this as i don’t have a pc, it’s a sea gate. i’ve had it for a while now and the issue has only just started happening

Could be a problem with the hard drive itself. But let's try to isolate the issue a bit more

First, can you try connecting a completely different drive or USB accessory in your console to if how it goes?

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

Try turning the console off then turn it back on without the hard drive and the connect the hard drive.
