When exactly will Microsoft ditch the requirement to have Xbox Live Gold to play F2P games?

So I'm an extremely casual gamer, I don't pay for gamepass since i don't invest a lot of time in playing games. I only mainly use my Xbox to watch Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and maybe play an odd game of Warzone/Fortnite now and then. My Xbox Live Gold membership has expired and I'm still required to have an active gold membership to play F2P games. Microsoft have announced that the change will be implemented in the "coming months" so does anyone have any idea on how long this may be? I really don't want to fork out another £50.00 (GBP) just to play a game that is meant to be F2P anyways. There's really no need for me to pay for gold since i don't play any other games or use the party chat function since most of my friends play on PS4 where they don't have to spend a single penny to play F2P games. It's a stupid paywall that should be removed ASAP and surely it shouldn't take that long for them to remove it. I was thinking of buying a 3 month membership in the hope that they would update the policy by the time this one expired, but it would work out cheaper if i just purchase a full 12 month membership. So does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Should i wait or just go ahead and buy a full year of gold since Microsoft may take up to another a year to change it. Thanks

There is currently no set date for when the Gold requirement will be dropped. "Coming months" could mean Spring or Summer or it could even mean Holiday season. I can't advise you on how to spend your money but I do encourage you to try exploring more of the Gold benefits such as the Rewards system or games with gold. If you decide to run a full year, I suggest trying out ultimate for a year as then you get GamePass included which hosts a massive amount of 1st and 2nd party games especially if you just enjoy casually playing different games.

Yes, that’s possible because live gold is not required for F2P games.
Besides that Live Gold is a requirement

Your post confuses me a little... It's still F2P... But it's always required Xbox Live Gold to play...

48-hour codes aren't full subscriptions and some games may require a full Gold subscription. Generally F2P games such as Fortnite require a full Xbox Live Gold subscription on order to play.
