When Does a Game Stop Running?

I have searched a few different ways on Google but all that comes up is how to manually quit an application, which is not what I am looking for.

The scenario is this. I was playing a game, made a capture, and attempted to upload it to OneDrive to view on my PC. After a few failed attempts to upload to OneDrive (this is another matter I would like to inquire about, as I can see my OneDrive files on
my Xbox, so I know it is linked to an account, and the correct one at that) I gave up and went back to my game, only to find that it had quit and I had lost about 10 minutes of progress.

This has happened a couple times now but I would like, if possible, a definite answer as to when the Xbox One decides to shut a game down rather than keep it running in the background. Specifically so I know what not to do until I have saved/reached a checkpoint
in my in-progress game.

For all of the nice features on this system there is surprisingly little information given on how things work and I have had to figure most things out by blindly testing things.

The workouts are streamed each time you start them. Even though you workout was already begun, it probably only saves a few seconds in advance. When your internect connection drops for anything longer than those few seconds it has no way to carry on. Although
in my experience there is a 'Try Again' option on these error messages which will pickup the workout from where is was stopped.

But you are right, there is no reason a workout couldn't be downloaded completely and run without needing an internect connection. Connection errors mid-workout completely take you out of your zone and ruin the experience. Xbox Fitness, at least for me,
also seems to have a lot more internet connection related issues than other streaming video issues. I really hope the game will be fixed to a point where these issues are solved. It has great potential, but errors like this would not be acceptible if they
want to do a subscription model.

during a workout the Internet Connection was lost. This was because of the router, but: why in the world is the workout stopped? why cant it run offline, once begun??? and why there is no way to resume it???

 

I've only recently gotten an xbox one so this is merely speculation on my part. It could be that having the game idle for a extended period of time is a cue for the xbox to stop it in an effort to save energy or data. Again, just speculation.

 

That is a possibility I suppose... though sometimes when it happens I have only been doing something else for a couple minutes, other times it can sit in the background for 10+ minutes and I can pick up where I left off... so I don't think it has to do with
idle time, but I was considering the RAM factor... but I would like to get a definitive answer if anyone has one.

 

I unfortunately don't have a solid answer for you either, but from what I've figured out through my own experimenting is that it is dependent upon RAM. Sometimes I can open 5 or 6 apps and they all resume, and sometimes I can only have 1. I believe that
apps and games are quit when memory runs low.

As for your issues with OneDrive, it may have been an issue with Live at the time, but if you are still having problems, try a hard reset first, then unplug your console for 5 minutes, and if neither of those work, I would reboot all network devices (console,
modem, and router).
