When are we going to see a return on our investment?

I'm with D33dles.

For the fun I've had so far with my Xbox One and looking at the games we know about already that are coming I say my investment was more than worth it.

 

The point I was trying to make is that Titanfall takes full advantage of what the One has to currently offer, hardware/software-wise. I agree Titanfall does not push the One to the limit of it's supposed potential but it uses the One and everything current
available to it fully.

 

oh i understand. nothing wrong with your opinion. but Titanfall is actually not taking advantage of anything on the hardware/software side of the Xbox One. the reason for that is it's an MP only game and for that reason Respawn only has to make it function
properly. with the exception of Cloud Compute, it doesn't use anything fully with the hardware/software of the Xbox One.

doesn't do anything with parties, snap function, DVR function, players, etc etc. it's a very basic multiplayer game in all regards actually. and even with cloud compute it isn't fully utilizing it. it does spot computing but the game doesn't fully take
advantage of even that.

i don't think you'd find many people to point to Titanfall and say 'this is what the Xbox One' can do. and that's because well it isn't really doing anything lol it's just a technically balanced game.

 

I guess when developers can learn to code for the X1 and the X1 consoles start to outnumber the current 360 consoles on the market..then we'll start seeing a flow of games...until then we have to deal with port overs/postpones/no X1 launch titles. Fun times.

 

Interesting to read your replies and I agree - there is plenty of return in terms of fun, but very little as yet that I cannot not still get on the 360 (which I'm happy to say I decided to keep). Even Titanfall is available on the 360 so, while I've only
seen the One version of it, I'm struggling to see how it's actually a next gen game. I think where I feel a little short-changed is that even in the early days of 360 there was a clear increase in quality over the original Xbox. That level of clear improvement
does not yet seem to be present in the current generational shift.

 

Titanfall looks WAY better on the X1, though I'm with you that it's not "actually a next gen game". I played the 360 version over a friends house for about a hour, and it seems to control the same as the X1 version.

I wouldn't consider myself a "graphics (Lady of ill repute.)", but do find more enjoyment in the X1 version of Titanfall and Tomb Raider.

I understand it's all about perspective, though I find the X1 launch superior to the 360 launch. For the first year the 360 was out I spent more time playing Halo and Ninja Gaiden than the new releases; I haven't touched a 360 (Except for trying Titanfall
over a friends.) for months.

Personally I don't feel that much is happening on any system at the moment. As far as big games go it's very quiet all round. As well as my X1, I also have my 360 and a good gaming pc. There's isn't really much coming out on any of them. From what I've seen,
it's pretty quiet over on the sony side as well. There have been a lot of delays that more than likely have something to do with companies getting used to the new hardware. As for companies making games exclusively for the new gen of consoles, I don't see
it happening to often until Microsoft and sony close down support for the old ones. There is way to many users for gaming companies to ignore the the older gen. Is the new gen a worthwhile investment? I guess it depends on how you look at it. I'm invested
for the long term. I really don't expect to much after only a few months. I've definitely had a lot of fun already and feel that my money was well spent.

 

This generation is about technical advances other than graphics in my opinion. Take Dead Rising 3, with 1000+ zombies on screen at once. Take Forza 5, with the calculations under the hood like tire wear, tire heat, air resistance etc. Take Titanfall's excellent
Auto Titan AI (and meh ground AI) calculated BY THE CLOUD.

Meanwhile, PS4 has no real innovation, and just has nice graphics and a 1080p mandate hurting framerate.

 

Right now the XB1 is not a good investment. I would hold off until the fall until the price comes down even more ... and it will. If they are already discounting a NEW release like (TitanFall) 38% after being available for only 2 weeks as well as discounting
the console itself only after 3 months you can bet they will continue the trend the rest of the year.

The smart money is holding out as long as you can.

 

Killer AC71, I'm not sure you really remembering the transition from xbox original to xbox 360 properly. There really wasn't that much of a graphical leap then either. In fact it was one of the main gripes people had with that transition as well. It's why
this gen change is reminding me so much of that one. Really if you think there is not much of a change put on something like forza 4 on the 360 the hop forza 5 on the X1. You will see a jump. Is it as big as everyone hoped? Probably not. But neither has it
on any other generational shift. It always takes time!

 

There has been a dry run for games, and sadly some brilliant titles have only been released on last gen, knowing this now would I have held off buying the X1? Not a chance, even knowing what I do I would have gotten it - May have kept my 360 too though :/

Heres my advice, if you want to play with investments, run the stock market, buying a console isnt your thing! If you want to game with the best of them, then the X1 or PS4 are where its at!

Stay strong, before you know it this will all be memories and we will all be struggling to buy all the sweet games that are getting released!!!

 

There are always a small number of games on a console right after a launch. Wait till next year and things will start to shift away from currnet gen to the next gen. By Holiday 2015 ps3 and 360 users will be cring because they wont be getting many games.
It always takes about a year for new console to really get going.

Joking aside, I think its going to be a fair while longer before we see what the X1 can be pushed to. For now I am happy with what I have, and what I know is coming. DuFFuL pretty much summed it up for me in his last post. The jump is never going to be big.
Not straight away anyway.

 

they cannot even give us a correct xbox.com website let alone aything worth over £400.

nothing you do on the xb1 shows on the xbox.com website which to me shows how unready they were to release the console as how hard can it be to give us an up to date website so we can access our xb1 stuff online.

 

When they release HALO and Minecraft on Xbox 1 perhaps. You tend to spend more money on games than the money you've spent getting your console as evidence when I first got Xbox 360. Publishers are still making games for last gen because they know A LOT of
peps still love to play on last gen. Have a full 360 friends list and only 8 of them have played on Xbox 1. Especially when there has been a lot of feedback on the Xbox 1, its likes and dislikes. Xbox 1 is still missing Voice Messaging, something which 360
has, can't even do voice messaging between other Xbox 1 consoles or even on Xbox 1's Skype app. It's only been 5 months since Xbox 1 released. Just need to give it some time.
