^^ So as a consumer you consider being lied to a good thing. I live in Arizona CODukes4............right on the beach. Its great. I surf every day and go marlin fishing on the weekends. You too can have the same experience. My neighbor is selling his house.
Just mail me $500,000 in unmarked bills. I'll take care of the paperwork for ya.

In my experience (and my opinion) console gamers "in general" are a little easier to fool via "hype" than an average consumer. Regardless, good marketing strategies (including "fine print" at the bottom of ads) can be found out there for any product. I am
still amazed at how gamers fall for the "pre-order" scams. But, marketers know the demographic they are targeting. A generation that has little patience (instant gratification). So they "lure" with a "limited item" or a map (that is available to everyone eight
months later) just to get the dollars before the game even comes out. And even though sometimes the game might be worth pre-ordering, this consumer gets into a habit into always doing so, and then get slammed with some games that aren't worth half what they
are sold for. Just my humble opinion and observations.

  3. BurninTODI- Couldn't have said it better myself. If people are interested. On Youtube, go to The Escapist. There's a series called "Jimquistion". It features the brilliant Jim Sterling talking about things like this in his typical cheeky, British way. As
a gamer he doesn't give us or the industry any slack. I honestly wish more gamers would think like he does. I feel like the gaming industry is slowly swirling around the drain and we as consumers are largely to blame for it.

^^ I'd have to agree that we are to blame. Pre-order bonuses, DLC, microtransactions are things lots of folks buy into and because publishers making tons of cash from these things they wont stop implementing them into games.

And as far as your neighbors house will you accept a cashiers check?

  5. Jim Sterling is awesome! Haven't watched him for some time though... When are gamers going to stop saying "how high?" :(

Advertising is meant to sell, regardless of how good or bad the product actually is. When it comes to video games, nowadays, if I can't get my hands on a demo before I buy, I'll rely on Twitch, which will show me actual gameplay rather than some CGI trailer
that is or isn't indicative of the actual game itself.

That being said, OP, I think you're taking it a little too seriously. Would you like me to get you a teddy bear so you can calm down?

Hey Nappy, get ready for a serve of reality mate...

Firstly, its your opinion Dead Island was terrible, I thought it was great and so did many many others...

Secondly, the trailer is an advertisement for the game, we all know it wont play like that and lets face reality, we get PLENTY of in game footage before launch so if you were disappointed then its on you for not looking beyond a cinematic...

Lastly and most importantly, word from someone who seems a little wiser than you, remember:

Red Bull wont actually give you wings... because its just advertising...

Lynx Deodorant wont make girls throw themselves at you... because its just advertising...

Holden Storm Utes wont actually create tornadoes when they do circle work... because its just advertising...

I hope you see where I am going here, but I doubt you will.....

  7. 24hours2live- I don't do checks. Especially ones made out of rubber. It's gotta be benjys. and you can mail em to my uhhhhhh P.O. Box.

Galactic Geek- It's not that serious. It was just food for thought. I personally get tired of the "what's your favorite game threads?" And yes I'll take the teddy bear, please. My wife loves teddy bears.

Cujo- I don't even know where to start with you.

Firstly- Yes the fact that I thought Dead Island was garbage is indeed my opinion. What an astute observation. Bravo. Might I also remind you that you thinking it is good is also an opinion. See. I'm just as smart as you think you are. I'll take a cookie
    as well. I love cookies.

Secondly- I realize it's an advertisement and all the examples you listed below were examples of association. A very common advertising method. It's a thin veil that anyone with 2 brain cells can see right through. The wings in the RedBull commercials are
a metaphor. I honestly haven't heard of the other products you mentioned but I'm sure they used the same method. The trailer for Dead Island was outright deception. Like selling a doo doo flavored soft drink and telling people it has the effervescent and refreshing
    taste of lemon/lime.

Lastly- I hate to burst your bubble but you aren't as smart as your parents have led you to believe. If you were you wouldn't have taken my posts so far out of context. The trailer had emotion that the game didn't. I bought the game years later in a bargain
bin. My point was that This franchise already mislead consumers with a bogus trailer and an even more bogus $60 dollar "sequel". Now gamers are being fooled by another trailer from the same franchise. I thought when people touched a hot stove and got burnt
they were smart enough to not touch it again.

I hope you see where I'm coming from, but I doubt you will........

Dead Island was brilliant, I played through that game multiple times. Riptide on the other hand wasn't as fun. Dead Island 2 I'm already pretty sold on, mainly because of how much I enjoyed the first game.

If we all liked the same thing's the world would be a dull place.

  9. I give up. My post wasn't about whether or not the game was good or not. Cheese and rice. I'm not gonna bother explaining it again. I'm just gonna bow out before my head explodes. It's been nice chatting with you guys over the years but this place gives
    me a headache.

Cheers Y'all. Have a nice life and live it like you were dying.

I am sure we can go back and forth all night, all you have really done is recycle what you already posted, thrown in some fancy words, try to imply you are older and wiser than me because you have a wife and then imply that I am a child because Mum and Dad
    over inflate my self worth...

I don't need to go another round because my first post stands true...

So let me finish with the things I agree with you about....

I love cookies too, they are great! Riptide was horrid.

    I have to say it.....

Dead Island 2, cant wait, my hand is all over that stove, make that both hands!!!

  11. It's the pull of a new experience. The last few Call of Duty titles have been shocking, but once again they've managed to pull me back in with the Advanced Warfare trailer. I hate and love them for it. Part of being a gamer means taking punts on new games.
The differing opinions is what makes it a unique hobby that has withstood the test of time, and even broadened it's worldwide audience. Some people game shop strictly by going with the 9/10 scoring games on places like IGN, Gametrailers, Gamespot... etc. Others,
like me, see something that looks great, even if it's scoring average to below average, and that's when I sometimes like to take a punt.

What makes a good game? Is it one that has high production values, crazy graphics, or high replayability? Based on what I've posted above, which is the one that you think I most often go for? When are gamers going to stop saying "how high?" ;)

  12. When a developer charges a small fortune just for a videogame, with the huge amount of marketing and hype they put behind a game to push it's sales, you kind of expect it to not be as generic as the next game.

The Dead Island trailer was astounding, one of the best I've seen, the game itself wasn't anything amazing but I had fun with it. 'Dead Island 2' isn't even on my radar, Dying Light is it's true successor (DI2 will be made by a different developer).. there's
plenty of gameplay for Dying Light which shows how it will play, and it looks like a big step up from Dead Island.

OP I expected Fable 1 to be an intutive game which brought you form child to adult with your decisions affecting the world and how you're treated, with the most immersive and believable AI ever made. It definitely was not that, point being, they've been
doing this forever... autosuggest in a google search for any game brings up a 'GAMEPLAY' suggestion, says it all really.

I understand where your coming from OP but I loved the original Dead Island. The trailer was great and yes it pulled me in. With that said I followed it and saw gameplay after gameplay so I knew it would be nothing like the trailer. Basically I enjoyed it
for what it was, zombie killing, co-op fun! It did have plenty of bugs and here's where I definitely get what your saying OP.

I followed Riptide closely as well and upon watching gameplay videos I saw how it was EXACTLY the same (even with how buggy it was). So luckily I caught on ahead of time, cancelled my preorder and never looked back. I mean even the ending boss fight of Riptide
was close to the original lol. I also talked a few friends out of wasting money as well. I don't care what others do with their money but I definitely do my research :)

Oh and I liked the rap song at the beginning, it was hilarious lol.

When are gamers going to stop saying "how high?"

When will gamers stop expecting every $60 game to be the greatest game to ever hit the shelves?

It doesn't have a mind blowing 80 hour campaign? Waste of money. It doesn't have an equally compelling multiplayer? I'll pass. It isn't 1080p, 60 fps? I thought this was next gen.

The game actually meets all of the above standards? Cool, I'll wait till it's in the $5 bin at gamestop. They better not think about a sequel or I will just complain.
