When are gamers going to stop saying "how high?"

Publishers/Developers say "jump" and we keep saying "how high?"

I was playing Dead Island the other day and was reminded just how god awful that game was as well as it's it's subsequent "sequel", Riptide. I put sequel in quotations because in reality it was just the same game with the word riptide on the front cover.
Which brings me to my point. After playing that game and laughing at how stupid it was, I was reminded of that game's E3 trailer. It was beautiful and emotional. Playing backwards from beginning to end, somber music playing in the background, father having
no choice but to hurl his daughter off the balcony after just saving her from a zombie horde....as she had been infected herself. It really was a beautiful trailer and if you haven't seen it, you really owe yourself a view. If, for anything else, to see a
master class in false advertising. The actual game was a buggy mess, void of any emotion, that starts out with a lame *** rap song filled with profanity. Every female NPC in the game has *** implants and every character throws the F word around like 5th graders.
You actually do a side quest that involves retrieving a teddy bear for some idiotic NPC who has apparently suffered some sort of brain trauma. That trailer in no way reflects the actual game.

Which brings me to now. 3 years after that trailer and that abomination of a game. I'm watching YouTube and I see one big YouTuber after the other saying that Dead Island 2 was the best of show. "OMG did you see the trailer? I'm sold" .....LOL.......WHAT!!!
The trailer? Do you not remember just 3 years ago. Ya know, the trailer for Dead Island 1. Remember how the game was NOTHING like the trailer? God gamers are so stupid and naïve. I bet these publishers/developers just laugh themselves to sleep at how gullible
we are. They outta just ship every game with a dunce cap and a drool cup.

I sum what agree trailer are to built hype and a way to get your game out there your games. They are not the game. that way I say nice CGI now where the gameplay. ITs the same with movies take the Godzilla movie trailer rock movie not so much. This has
been happing forever look at kill zone 2 on PS3 it was CGI game wasn't even close.

I get you're saying Nappy and I definitely agree. Some trailers are so over the top and you're like.. that's GOTY! Then again, I'm like that with every game lol. It sucks when a trailer is so awesome, but then you play the actual game and you're like.. this
is poop. Now when the trailer delivers and the game delivers, I'm really happy. I try not to go with trailers that much anymore. It'll look bad*** sure, but then the game just plain sucks. CoD does this every year. Sledgehammer says the next CoD will be the
game changer. Hmm, they said that about Ghosts. They just keep fooling everyone. I usually end up getting every CoD, but I'm iffy on this one after Ghosts.

 

When will gamers stop expecting every $60 game to be the greatest game to ever hit the shelves?

It doesn't have a mind blowing 80 hour campaign? Waste of money. It doesn't have an equally compelling multiplayer? I'll pass. It isn't 1080p, 60 fps? I thought this was next gen.

The game actually meets all of the above standards? Cool, I'll wait till it's in the $5 bin at gamestop. They better not think about a sequel or I will just complain.

 

Defy- Yeah I admit. Call of Duty gets me every year. But not this year....*wink*...LOL.

CODukes4- I don't expect every game to be the GOAT. I was more speaking about Dead Island specifically. Watch the trailer and then play the game. The trailer for that game is beautiful and emotional. As a father of a little girl, the trailer kinda made me
misty eyed, it's that well done. Wait, did I just say that out loud? The point is, the actual game was a joke in comparison. I'm still waiting for the zombie game that that trailer portrayed. Now here comes Dead Island 2's trailer and I see gamers getting
fooled all over again. We need to start giving these developers/publishers the middle finger more often than we do.

I can understand being let down by a trailer, it's happened to me with more than just games.

Luckily I never saw the Dead Island trailer and I played it a year or so after releases and I loved it! Haha.

You can ask Shigurui about the original Assassins Creed trailer, that got him pumped for something that didn't deliver, again I loved the first AC, haha.

 

DigitalAssassin- Please humor me and go to YouYube and watch the trailer for the original Dead Island and come back here and give me your thoughts. The emotion in that trailer is in no way reflected in the actual game. You think you're gonna get a Walking
Dead version of the zombie apocalypse and instead you get a Shaun of the Dead version.....only not nearly as funny. In fact Dead Island isn't funny at all. Unless you count the bad animations and dialog.

 

I understand where your coming from OP but I loved the original Dead Island. The trailer was great and yes it pulled me in. With that said I followed it and saw gameplay after gameplay so I knew it would be nothing like the trailer. Basically I enjoyed it
for what it was, zombie killing, co-op fun! It did have plenty of bugs and here's where I definitely get what your saying OP.

I followed Riptide closely as well and upon watching gameplay videos I saw how it was EXACTLY the same (even with how buggy it was). So luckily I caught on ahead of time, cancelled my preorder and never looked back. I mean even the ending boss fight of Riptide
was close to the original lol. I also talked a few friends out of wasting money as well. I don't care what others do with their money but I definitely do my research

Oh and I liked the rap song at the beginning, it was hilarious lol.

 

Tcruz- LOL. I liked the song too but it was the polar opposite of that trailer.

 

The Gears of world 'mad world' trailer fooled me. It's called good marketing.
