What's with all the hate for Mass Effect: Andromeda?

If you haven't played the other 3 Mass Effect games then you won't understand the hate.

The first 3 games have quite a lot in common with Babylon 5 which is why I like them so much.

Personally I think the first Mass Effect game was the best.ME2 was brilliant but it was more action based & a lot of the customising options & rpg elements were removed. It was around that time that E.A. bought Bioware so i'll leave it up to you to make your
    own conclusions.

The third one was great up until "that ending".

Andromeda is just bland in comparison. The character models were awful but they have been vastly improved now.

Combat is ok but the fact you can have any power on your character makes it way to easy, even on Insanity which is good as your squad mates are as dumb as a bag of bricks.

I still haven't finished my Insanity runthrough because I just got bored with it.

As for tips, don't bother with assault rifles as they don't do squat at that difficulty.Team mate loyalty missions are a must.

Go back to places you have visited already as new side missions open up.Research & build the good gear as that helps a lot.

Best tip is to forget Andromeda & play the other 3 ME games as they are way better.

    :)

  2. Facebook vote for the 'official' female Shepard

There's three books out atm, with a fourth on the way.

Mass Effect Revelations is a prequel novel to the Mass Effect trilogy, shows how Saren was lead to what we know as Sovereign, David Anderson and his past with Saren as well. Mass Effect Ascension ties into Mass Effect 2 and details why the Quarians hate
Cerberus. Mass Effect Retribution is set (I think) just after Mass Effect 2 with The Illusive Man along with Kai Leng, Aria T'loak, David Anderson in it and shows the effects of Reaper tech and what it can do.

The fourth book, Mass Effect Deception (Slated for a January 31st, 2012 release) is set sometime after the events of Retribution with a character from the previous entry in a primary role (just from reading the info about it on Mass Effect wiki). All are
    great reads imo.

Thanks for the tips and input.

BluSwirl I'm glad you said the beginning was the hardest because it's pretty tough, but it's getting easier now that I'm getting used to it.

You can always respec your abilities in the med bay (I think) on your ship if you aren't happy with what you've got.

    Ill keep that in mind.

Do you earn lots more skill points at a once later on in the game? Some skills cost nine points so not sure if I should save them up now or keep upgrading lower skill points abilities first.

    Spend them now.

You might want to keep some aside later on because you'll get something from doing Peebee's loyalty missions.

Like I said though, you can respec anytime you want so no point in having points sitting there doing nothing.

You'll never get enough points to max everything out on one playthrough anyway.

If I still have the game on my hard drive i'll look later to see what I had for my Insanity run as I was practically invincible.

Then again they may of nerfed a few things since I played it.

  8. What's with all the hate for Mass Effect: Andromeda?

I had to stop playing after 15 hours simply because I realised that I didn't give a damn about a single one of the characters in the game bar Gil the engineer. The best way I saw this described was "you know something is wrong with
a Bioware game when no-one is arguing about who has the best Waifu."

Other irritations would be the map. I've always maintained that if you need to put a fast travel system on your map so the player doesn't get bored travelling it, then your map doesn't have enough interesting stuff in it. Either add more stuff or reduce the
    size of the map.

This one is kind of two. My wrist scanner would stop working, it would open but instantly close. As it is a required tool to progress in some missions, it was game breaking to not have this work. Of course most of the time it could simply be fixed by returning
to the main menu and reloading. Except that choosing exit to the main menu didn't take you to the main menu but the damn title screen where you have to press a button to get to the damn main menu....ok rant over. Yes that was a small thing but the wrist scanner
failed to work often enough that the return to the main menu issue really began to irritate.

I'm always kind of torn about the combat. On one hand there isn't a single thing that isn't made better by jetpacks but I loathe the distance sensitive cover system. Too many times would I snap into cover when I didn't want to be there.

There was a kernel of a good game fighting to get out of Andromeda but it never had a chance.

  9. I have never understood game bashing, it is simple, don't like it, don't buy it. Everything out there appeals to someone but not everyone

  10. How are people meant to know they like it before they buy it or at the very least rent it?

    Your statement makes little sense.

The first part of this statement makes no sense at all. It's like saying you don't like a certain food even though you've never eaten it.

With all due respect, "this one is kind of two". Wut even?

Playing on PC? I'm not getting it. I'm steadfastly *not* a hater but am having trouble trying to break through your wall of scorn. On Xbox, Mass Effect Andromeda is the next best thing to godly. Yep, I went there. It's not a patch on ME 2 & 3, but try crafting
a better game. How you gonna do it? It takes hundreds - nay, it takes an ARMY - to poop out a triple-A these days, and even if you're not on board, even if Andromeda fails to make the grade, it's a certified top-tier title that fell just a tad short of expectations.
Did you finish it? If not, then you can't really say that something didn't work for you because I went the distance and it was sublime. Perhaps that's the difference? PC versus console? You're barking up the wrong tree, obvi.

@ Daft Badger: Far be it from me to burst your bubble, but if you were practically "invincible", then you obviously beat seven bells out of the ARCHITECTS, yeah? Those were the earth-shaking leviathans that rose up and demanded some Dark Souls-ish devotion
or you weren't talking turkey. I loves me a challenge, but being smited because your mobility isn't up to snuff can go do one. There's not even an achievement for besting them, so why bother? I bet you didn't What's with all the hate for Mass Effect: Andromeda? :p

  14. So I should have forced myself to play through another 30 hours or so with the wrist scanner failing to work on occasion before I am allowed to say that the wrist scanner didn't work on occasion? I gave the game 15 hours to impress me but it did not, add
in the recurring wrist scanner problem and there was no reason for me to carry on with the title.

Call me silly if you will but I expect a game to be good from the beginning. I own the Shepard trilogy for console and PC, I even bought a Windows tablet recently to be able to play them on the go (the controller mods for the games are great). Andromeda was
a title that I wanted to love

I'm genuinely envious that you've had such a great experience with Andromeda, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be for me.

  15. I just have to reiterate what some have already pointed out about the original series... The first ME was the most boring (Note that it wasn't to me, personally, I like a good story and that is what ME had in spades). But ME2 was better in relation to combat
and had less "boring" aspects, with ME3 being the best... barring... the ending that has also been mentioned. Ever go see a movie that just seemed to be boring at the beginning, but got better once things progressed? The kind of movie that you might hear
people say was "A bit slow to get started, but was worthwhile after you get through the beginning?" That's ME... JMPO, but you just walked out before the worthwhile part.

The way I see it, MEA doesn't measure up to the previous series, much in the way that J3rs3y Devil said. The characters only generated a bit of interest on the surface for me, at best. They did little to nothing to make me feel drawn to them. Ryder is nothing
special right out of the box... and despite what the story charges him/her to accomplish... does little to become more than that. I almost found the enemies to be more intriguing than my squad mates and my squad mates were more interesting than Ryder.

Also, if this is the "end product" as J3rs3y has said (and I've heard rumors about BW shelving the series "for now" due to downsizing) then this **** up of a beginning to a new ME series is all but dead to me. I had enough trouble remembering all the decisions,
from game to game, that I was told I should "make carefully because they can have a big impact on the story's future" when the first series got more right than wrong. Now that it seems we have no idea if there will or won't be a next game in the series...
or perhaps how much longer we'll have to wait for it... well good luck to BW/EA in making me interested in the next offering. They're going to need tons of it.
