What's the point of Preload?

What the subject says, whats the point? I downloaded 2k15 with the preorder on the Xbox One store, had the 44GB installed on Saturday, come to play the game at 12:05 and instead of launching the game, it's reinstalling the entire game.

I thought the whole point was to have the game installed before launch and then download maybe the last bit of info or some unlock to play the game once it's 12:01, not to reinstall the game.. again.

If I own a plastics company, and I can sell you 20 light cases instead of 10, with the same amount of material involved..I'm winning. Tacking on the Environmental stamp for the Hippies is just icing on the cake.

 

For real same happen to a lot of people. There no point n it sucks I go t to almost two day to play the game now

 

It's supposed to save you a half hour or so. It's for people who want to play at midnight instead of downloading for a few minutes.

It seems it doesn't work anyway.

In my opinion, it is a really pointless feature. I wouldn't mind buying it at midnight and waiting a short while to download it.

 

Pre load works fine here, maybe that one game bugged on you? Well it must have because all pre loads for me and my friends worked great!

 

worked just fine for me when preloading Horizon 2, suppose it could be something with specific games/regions?

 

Sounds like there are hiccups , as with anything....

 

Did that game have a day one update? if so.. that couldve been the problem..

and yeah.. I do not see the reason.. sure I guess it is nice to click play at 12AM on release day.. but games usually release early to mid week.. some people have jobs and need to be up at 6AM.. the remote DLing is more important to me.. get my sleep..
buy game while at work have it ready to go when I get home

 

It worked fine for me with Destiny & FIFA 15. Keep in mind I tend to sleep at night, so I wasn't sitting around for 12:01 to strike and start playing. I actually (for both games) didn't start playing them until about 5:30 PM after I got home from work
on the day of release.

 

Preloading worked for me, far as I could tell, for Destiny. The game was pre-loaded onto my console from a previous digital purchase. When the 360 to Xbox One free upgrade deal was announced I cancelled the digital purchase via Xbox Support, but didn't delete
the pre-loaded content. On Destiny launch day I bought it on the 360's digital marketplace, then the Xbox One activated and installed the pre-download that I had sitting on the console.

A download isn't an installation. Unlike the 360, once you download a title it then has to be installed. Installation shouldn't take too long relative to the download time for 44GB on most consumer ISP connections.

 

My preload of Destiny worked exactly as it should have - it downloaded and installed except for the last 5% and was unplayable until its release - the only downside was having to wait until 3 am to start it due to it being scheduled for release with the
west coast of the US.

 

Mine worked flawlessly for Destiny so no issue to me. Loved getting the download out the way (which took hours) so I could just start playing at 3:01am. Not sure who wouldn't want this feature as a option at least. Like GG said, the only downfall was the
time zone thing.

 

Think its game to game....some may only download and not install to avoid bugs/glitches with people being able to play it early...others like destiny had restrictions in place to install prior to release.

 

Ok so Destiny and Forza Horizon didn't have an issue. Guess 2k15 was the exception. Thanks for the replies i see i wasnt the only one having this issue or wondering why i would download a game, then to have to redownload the game again. The game downloaded
and works great, but i was looking forward to playing it last night.
