Whats so good about the Halo series?

And if you are using a 360 I would definitely pick up a copy of Halo CE Anniversary, as you play you can swap between the shiny new updated graphics and the original Xbox graphics.

But apart from that it was a genre defining game, virtually every other FPS since has copied the controller layout that started with Halo.

Having beat 2 3 and 4 on 360, stuck on 1 atm, I am still getting the MC collection due to the way they are doing it, and a remastered Halo 2... Getting ODST and Reach are a good idea but there are continuity errors in the storyline, especially in Reach...
Nothing major to detract from the game...

Halo Combat Evolved is the reason why I bought an X box back in 2002. The game-play is phenomenal, and is the very first FPS that had a very interesting story. My favorite Halo memories was being stuck in hotels, waiting for the next soccer game, hook up
4 televisions and playing 8 on 8 on sidewinder with 16 of your teammates. It doesn't get much better than that. If your looking to start Halo and are serious about it than begin with Reach and move on down. If your unsure. Start with combat evolved or
halo 4 depending your preference better story or better graphics. Halo remains the greatest FPS for console I have ever played. Even better than modern warfare.

Can wait for Halo 5

ODST was a lil depressive and Reach…well that´s debatable I guess.

If you are totally brand new to the series, definitely get Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Not only do you get updated graphics, you also get to experience the game as we all did a decade ago. If you enjoy it, pick up MCC later this year and grab Halo: Reach and Halo: ODST for good measure. It is soon to be a brilliant time to be a Halo player
with the multiplayer being rebooted for the classics.

I would get odst I really liked the campaign it had a lot darker tone than the others, and I like seeing what happened to the city between h2 and h3. But it's not necessary.

Huge Halo fan here, I would just get the Master Chief Collection.

Halo 3: ODST was fun with a group of people and the campaign was okay, but overall I found it to be an unnecessary addition to the series. You can definitely skip it.

Halo: Reach is my least favorite of the Halo series, but the story was good. It's a prequel to the rest of the series so playing it before the Master Chief Collection might help things make more sense story wise, but you don't have to play it to understand
Master Chief's story. It's not a MUST HAVE, but pick it up if you really want a bit more insight into the story.

Personally, I think you'll be fine with the Master Chief Collection. Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3 are some of my favorite FPS games of all time and Master Chief is just simply awesome. Halo 4 was a great addition to the series and I have faith that 343 Industries
is on the right track, the series is in good hands. I'm really excited for Halo 5: Guardians!!

the halo series has a good story that you can follow along with your friends in 4 player co-op, you can make your own maps in forge mode on halo 3, reach, and 4. multiplayer has a good amount of gametypes for whatever you like

Yeah you should buy reach as it is a prequel to Halo combat evolved.
