What's Dark Souls about?

What's Dark Souls about? I'm just curious what it's about before downloading it from Games for Gold and I keep hearing this game is amazing but what makes it amazing? Is it the game play or the storyline? The name kinda sounds like I'm killing demons the
whole time but I dunno.....

What's tougher? Dark Souls or Dragon's Dogma?

What's everyone's opinion?

P.S Can I make a tank class like I did in Dark Souls?

What's a Dark Souls? Never heard of it, Skyrim sounds like a much better RPG though, get that instead.

 

It's a third-person action RPG. You kill a lot of undead, monsters, and skeletons. Everything you kills drops "souls" which you use to level up and repair/upgrade equipment. Killing bosses opens up new areas. It's a fun game and not nearly as hard as is
claimed. The games with gold version has had some glitches though. I don't know if all that has been fixed yet.

 

As for what makes it "amazing", that just really depends on your personal taste. I like the coop multiplayer in it myself, which is really unique and fun. On the flip side of that is invasions by human players... Not so fun.

 

Answering this question is actually pretty difficult really, the game is about learning from your mistakes, Getting back up and doing it again but better...still dying yet again but learning and finally getting it right. There will hardly be ever be a
time you won't die unfairly (one exception being is if another player invades...that can be pretty cheap sometimes.) It's about never losing hope.

This game is great, it is a game that forces you to play better, it doesn't hold your hand and is only as difficult as you let it be. You will die...you will die a lot....if you learn from those deaths the game becomes easier...if you don't give up hope
and become hollow.

 

Another thing that makes this game so good is the rewarding feeling you get after you overcome the part that's been killing you over and over. Some games just get annoying. This one makes you want to push forward.

I also like the fact that the game is really well balanced. There is no such thing as the best weapon or the best armor. It all depends on your playstyle, what you're comfortable with, etc.

 

You don't play DS for the storyline. Well, you can, but most of it won't make sense unless you watch someone like VaatiVidya on youtube who explains the storyline and lore of both DS and DS2 very very well.

Dark Souls' strongpoint is the challenge, and overcoming that challenge. I spent over 100 hours with this game on PC and downloaded it with GwG when it released on Xbox, and despite the fact that I know this game like the back of my hand, I STILL get my
butt kicked. I remember every location, how to defeat every boss, etc etc. But I still suck. And that's exactly what makes this game great, it's never easy. NG+ and beyond is also difficult, just because you play a NG+ doesn't mean it will be easier, because
the enemies only get more difficult. And if you're a hardcore player, you will want to keep playing to be able to be godly in this game, you'll want to play all the way up to NG+6 (when enemy difficulty maxes out) so you'll be able to conquer it, and have
the satisfaction of knowing you've conquered one of the hardest games this generation.

If you like RPGs that offer extreme challenge, and you don't mind rage quitting every now and then and yelling at your TV and maybe breaking a controller or two depending on how good you can control your temper, then Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 are amazing
games.

 

Just a nit, but difficulty maxes out at NG+7.
