What went wrong from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox one?

@Goat, could well be, I agree and think they were made to look bad in the press and their PR was rubbish, they could have spun it back but didn't even try.

I do wonder if they had delayed how far they would have been behind. I do think they had to release around the same time to stay in the game, if PS was a fully polished product they would have been able to shoot infront without a problem, suprised both consoles
didn't wait another 6 to 12 months.

however the feedback MS got from the community has allowed them to move forward better than without the launch, which isn't what the users expected.

Since the last update I've personally had no issues or noticed any drop in quality, seems fine to me.

So now 360 play-back isn't Native 1080p? Why has that happened? and is the play-back now having a 720p limitation like it is with VUDU?

Davey. MS do deserve credit for the speed they have moved forward. They have done a lot over a year for sure, still much to do though.

Stud.... I guess you are just lucky. I thought 10 hard resets was good going compared to some on here.

 

The one is better than the 360 now and always was. To vaynel in what world did the 360 do well at release mine died 5 times before I got a slim again silver account babbling

 

Hardware wise the 360 did suffer, no doubt there, I never had that problem but I knew it existed from friends console's failing.

What did the 360 do well at release? Media Streaming for a start, could play media off disc, could play DVDs without the need for an 'app'. Numerous improvements to Live.

The 360 took what functionality the Original Xbox had at the end of its life and improved on it. Can you honestly say that about the One?

Again game wise you wont hear me complaining. As a games console the Xbox One is excellent. Yet can you honestly tell me Galactic that the Party Chat system is as good as on the 360? What about the One's media capability, no playing files from disc for example.
Heck it took them near a year to enable DNLA for the One and Media Player simply isn't as good as the 360's System Media Player. How about not being able to download your Xbox Video purchases to the console?

The One seems to have taken a back step in many ways. You can blame this on 'silver account babbling' all you want but it doesn't make it any less true.

This doesn't mean I hate Xbox One, on the contrary I think it has a extremely bright future. Yet I'm not going to sit back and pretend that everything it does is as good as what the 360 can do.

 

I don't use half the stuff you mentioned so to me its not an issue really, like people say its a work in progress. I'm sure they will implement the features you stated at some point, but from my point of view its not a main concern. If I can play games on
it I'm happy.

 

Don't get me wrong this isn't a deal breaker for me, I mostly game on my PC these days anyway.

Yet it is not unreasonable to expect the features of the One to be as good as those on the 360, people shouldn't have to 'let it go' or accept 'Microsoft will get there eventually'.

The feature set of the One should have been at least as good as the 360 at launch, with improvements made over time. It shouldn't have been the case that we have to wait for the One to catch up.

XO based on your issues has taken a step sideways to take into consideration the current situation, they are not the same as what your used to and that seems the issue.

I agree party chat isn't stable but the rest of the chat system is fine.

Just to pick on one of the things. What possible good reason could there be to not allow me to download Xbox Video purchases but only stream them?

That isn't a step sideways, that's a big step back in functionality.

 

To protect the content maybe?

Because the design of the xbox one is to be used with a quality internet connection, so since why would you need to downloaded it?

Because why would you want to clog up a hard drive with something you have access to anyway?

I could go on.

 

Protect the content from someone who has paid for it? That's the kind of silly thinking that got unskippable anti-piracy ads put on DVDs, you know those anti-piracy ads the pirates didn't see.

Why would I want to have it downloaded to use offline? What a good point, you know I just can't imagine a scenario like someone DDoSing Microsoft and making connecting to Live very difficult...oh wait!

 

People have short memories...they act like the 360 was perfect and never had any problems.
