  1. What USB sticks are recognised for offline updates

    Hi

I have a problem with my xbox which is due to a corrupted update. Unfortuntely I can't get the Xbox to see the USB stick with the offline update files.

I have a new Scandisk 256gb USB 3.0 stick formatted to NTFS but the option is greyed out when this is connected to any port of the Xbox.

Can anyone tell me which USB sticks work with the Xbox?

    Regards

    RIchard

    :)

What USB sticks are recognised for offline updates

    Heya there!

First off, all NTFS formatted USB-Sticks should work, at least I don't know of any that are explicitly unsupported. There might be some reasons giving you problems here:

    • Make sure once again the stick is formatted as NTFS. In some instances Windows pre-selects FAT instead. (But as you mentioned NTFS already, I guess you have this one checked)
    • As per the official manual, (https://support.xbox.com/en-IN/help.../system-update-solution/offline-system-update) you need to have the $SystemUpdate in the stick's root directory. Not in sub-folders, and not the packed .zip file, this is easy to mix up
    • if you / your console is signed up to the "XBox Insider" program, the Insider builts are different from the Offline Update ones, so you can't use offline update as far as I know if you're using the Insider builts. So, for the update to work, you'd need to leave Insider first with the console
I hope that one of those things might be the cause of the problem here, otherwise I hope other people have more ideas.

Best wishes, let us know if you can get it to work!

    Greetings,
    Bryan

    Problems downloading last update

I have repeatedly formatted the HDD... and then rebooted the console with the USB stick in (which has the update unzipped on it) - it now won't recognise this usb stick & update.... I'm pulling my hair out

    Hi Allebas,

I have tried to do a offline update by downloading the update files onto USB and the console would not recognise it or show any indication I could update offline
