What to the numbers in the circles mean in profiles?

I've noticed on Xbox One and on the 360 as well, that sometimes there's a number next to their name or, in the Xbox One's case, there's a number in a circle. (Usually green)

Anyone know what this means? It's been boggling me for days, haha.

How does the scoreboard work?

To be more specific, what do the numbers next to the dots with circles mean? I can't figure it out. They don't always equal the number of kills I got so I thought maybe it's headshots. But that's not accurate either. So what does the number represent?

 

Why do we still use the 4 bar system?

It's cause we're too stupid to understand what the numbers mean. MASON!!! WHAT THE #@%* DO THE NUMBERS MEAN?

Thanks for the confirmation, Nxt. I originally thought it had to do with the challenges that some of the Xbox One games had.

 

Actually it no longer is really your tenure on Live.

In specific as Merlin has stated it is your accumulated years of gold.

This number will not increase if the account is Silver/Free

This is interesting, my number is not correct either. \however when the family Gold pack was created i used that for a while. maybe that's the problem, Maybe the number only tracks individual years of Gold?

either that or when I switched consoles the number stopped tracking.

The number means how many years long you have currently maintained your Xbox Live GOLD membership for. On Xbox 360, it's MANDATORY for PARTY CHAT and multiplayer.

Xbox Live Gold is very cheap, most likely your cheapest bill ever. 12 month subscription costs only NZ$79.95 and that's the full retail price Microsoft NZ has set. (yes they have offices over here).
