What to do when you add a password on your new Xbox and it won’t take the password

I'm sorry you're having this issue with your Xbox.

Check for typos, double-check that you're typing your password correctly, including capital letters and special characters.

Make sure you're using the correct password for your Microsoft account.

Change your password online:

Try changing your password on the Microsoft account website (account.microsoft.com). This can sometimes sync the password change with your Xbox.

Remove and re-add your account:

On your Xbox, go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.

Select your account and remove it.

Restart your Xbox.

Go back to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Add new and re-add your account.

This should help resolve the issue.

The best fix for this is to go back to the website and change it again. Sometimes the change does not take so needs to be redone. Note when you do change the password on the website, make sure to sign in on the website with your new password. This way you
make sure it has changed. Then on your console you can
remove and reinstall the profile. Once you reinstall the profile you will use your new password.

Couple questions

1. You said you changed the password did you change it before you put your profile on the new console?

2. I DO NOT want to know what the password is just is the password longer then 16 characters?

360 consoles password box is limited to 16 characters so if you made your password longer then 16 characters and go to type in the new password that is longer then 16 characters since the box is limited to 16 characters it will stop at the 16th character
and when you hit submit it will say your password is incorrect.

So if your password is longer then 16 characters you will have to change it to something less then 16 characters if you want to use your new 360.

Once you change the password the new password takes affect immediately so you would not have to wait any amount of time.

What? Microsoft failing to communicate what is required, or at best failing to clearly communicate what to do? Shocking. What you will need to do is go to your Microsoft (not Xbox) profile page and work your way to the Xbox 360 device page, and request
it to generate a password. WARNING: your password will be an huge amount of letters that will be impossible to commit to memory. After it generates your new (and unrequested and unfamiliar) password, when you sign into your Xbox with your email address use
that new, irritating password. And for the love of God, make your Xbox remember the password or you will be doomed to remember all 16 confusing letters OR go an generate a new one everytime you wish to play online. So now if someone steals your Xbox ...
you will be just as protected as before! Except Microsoft got to make you miserable and confused for the pleasure of it all. Happy gaming!

When you go to sign into your account on your console and it asks for the new password and you put in the new password is it saying the password is incorrect? or what is it saying?

Are you sure you changed the password for your MS account that is attached to that xbox profile?

You can double check by trying to sign into your account at account.xbox.com and it should bring up the xbox profile with the same gamertag as which is on your xbox.

If not that means your signing into a different profile.
