  1. What Security Setting does a child need to play online with his friends

Can anyone please detail the settings we need to use? My 10 yr old son has an xbox 360 and xbox live gold. We have minecraft and he wants desperately to play with his friends. We have 2 of his friends added as friends. However whenever we try to join
their game, or invite them to our game we get the message that we need to change the security and privacy settings. I tried changing various things but we still got the message. I then changed him to a 'teen' and that gave us the option to join his friends
game. I really don't want to keep him as a 'teen', could someone please please list the security settings that need to be changed in 'child' in order to let him play online with friends? I'm worried if I set him as a teen he could end up playing with random
strangers. We find the whole thing very confusing, I've spent hours setting up accounts and we've still not actually made it online with any of this friends. if anyone know if an idiots guide to setting all this up I'd be most grateful

    Many thanks

    :)

My son's child's microsoft-account doesn't show up in my Xbox family

I have a Microsoft account set up with a child added to the Microsoft family. My child has a Microsoft account (i.e. the Microsoft family), and had created an xbox profile on his kindle.

When I go into my family's xbox settings, I don't see my child's xbox profile. I was never asked to verify his account with a parent account. I am unable to access his security settings. Of course, when I log into his child account, I am also unable to
access his xbox security settings because his account is a child account.

I need to be able to access his xbox security settings so that I can change some games and stuff. How??

We don't have an xbox console -- hence the xbox on windows question.

  3. Live membership for xbox 360 for child

If you have your profile for your child set to play online with friends only, how can his friends find him or how does he find his friends to be able to play online together? If I allow his profile to be seen by everyone, how can know who you are friending?

Xbox live gold is not sharing with family members on my home Xbox

It will share your Xbox live gold with your kids but will only show the subscription active under your account in the subscriptions in settings.

Is it saying that they need to buy xbox live? This means that console is not set as your home console.

Is it saying that this profile does not allow playing online? This would be in the online safety and security settings that you would need to allow them to play online multiplayer.

Now there is One publisher (EA) that I am aware of that no matter what settings you have set for your Child accounts they will not be able to play their games online.

Here is a link on how to change the online safety and security settings this link will show you how to do it online and on the xbox console itself

What error message does your friend get?

If it's a message about how his profile is set up, he needs to go to
    https://account.xbox.com/settings
and set up his online and privacy settings to allow multiplayer with others as well as seeing creations made by others. You need to do the same.

If your friend (and/or you) get a page about adding a child account to a parent account, your parents need to go to
https://account.microsoft.com/family and add each other's respective child account to their family account. Then the parent has to go to https://account.xbox.com/settings and
set up the online and privacy settings for their kid.

If they get a network related error message, your friend needs to check his Xbox console under the network settings, that they have an open NAT.

Additionally, you can also open the Xbox App on your Windows PC and check that your NAT is open.

    Adding a child profile

Hi there, unfortunately no, to create an account so that they can play online needs to have an email address for security purposes, no one can see this email so it's not like they would get unsolicited emails from other users, but you can save the email
and password to the console so your child doesn't know those details as well as changing their security settings for what content they can see online, who can interact with them etc.

More info on adding the child here:

Does your grandson have a Gold subscription? As it is needed to be able to play online.

If he has a child account then the parent account will need to change the settings to allow for online gaming.
