    DHCP issues with Powerline Adapter

Hi All I'm not going to claim to know this inside and out so I hope you can help me out with what I do know. I very successfully had my Xbox One connected via a powerline adapter to my BT home hub 5 for a number of months but I've recently been getting
error messages on my Xbox saying it can't connect to my DHCP server. My powerline adapter has 3 devices attached, my AV receiver, Xbox 360, as well as my Xbox one. They have all been suffering issues recently too. To my mind the common issue is the powerline
adapter so I wanted to know if there was something I could take a closer look at. My powerline adapter is a TP-Link TL-PA2030. Any help would be greatly received, and please excuse my ignorance.

Using an additional device to connect to xbox live

    Hey there Vass!

What is the make and model of your powerline? Have you connected the powerline properly to your gateway? I think the password you're referring to is DAK (Data Access Key). It is used to manage the powerline adapter.

If you are referring to powerline ethernet network adapters, they aren't Xbox specific and should all be compatible. That said, some models get better reviews than others and effectiveness can depend on your house wiring, so do your research.

Those numbers are the maximum theoretical speed/throughput that can be achieved between the adapters. In practice, you won't get anything close to those numbers but, depending on your electrical wiring, should get plenty for Xbox use. I would get at least
500mbps adapters because the higher speed ones will generally have a newer, better chipset in addition to being somewhat faster than the 200mbps ones. Also, if your residence has coaxial cable outlets in convenient places, you may want to look into MoCA adapters
instead. They can be much more reliable than powerline, especially if your residence has old/complex/noisy electrical wiring.

I have TP-Link 500mbps ones and they work perfectly fine with xbox one.

I agree you should get at least 500mpbs as they lose speed depending on your houses wiring and the faster the speed the better.

With 200mpbs ones I could only get a maximum speed for 50mpbs even though my internet is 75mbps. After upgrading to 500mbps I now get maximum download speed on my xbox.

    Hi

I have been having problem with my virgin media super hub 2 router in the respect that i can only play online games and be in party chat on a wired connection, once i use wireless it kicks me out, i contacted virgin and they went through static IP adress
and port forwarding, i did this 4 times with them and it didnt work i was still getting kicked, its not appropriate for me to use a wired connection, i was wondering if the powerline adapters would help that and make it think its on a wired connection or am
i clutching at straws, i dont want to waste anymore money considerding ive spent £400 on a console that i cannot play online with or stream anything! Can you please help? Thanks What Powerline Adapter is Compatible with my Xbox One? :)

Powerline adaptors basically turn your house electrical wiring into Ethernet cables.

If you don't have any problem wired now then you probably won't have any problems with powerline adaptors as you will still technically have a wired connection. Although if there is something wrong with the wiring in your house there may be problems.

Although this thread is nearly a year old so you may be better off starting a new thread and asking for help on getting your wireless working properly as if someone can help you with that you may save some money.
