What makes next-gen actually next-gen?

Same as a few above. Next Gen is an improvement on the last gen that was not possible to do then. Think Dead Rising 3. It had no place last gen as it just wasn't capably supported. Some games on the 360 now require a big install before allowing you to play
the core game because they need the extra capacity or what not. I am not tech-savvy so forgive me if I am a little off but that's just my perception.

 

Xbox One is a over-priced Google Chromecast.

Consoles with better hardware and features doesn't mean we'll see bigger and better games. The evolution of games require developers to be innovative and think outside the box. We've seen exactly the opposite on consoles in recent years, shorter games with
less content, depth wrapped up in a pretty package.

The PC is seeing small developers bringing back 2d and 8, 16 bit style games that are excellent games from a gameplay standpoint they just don't seem to appeal to the current console community which is a shame.

I'm not sure much "new" can be done at this time from a tech standpoint until we see VR or something that's really new so it's up to developers to entertain us with gameplay and story rather than pretty graphics.

 

Agree Randver. As I seen games go on I see smaller and smaller battles. I take a large scale battle with Median than I small scale battle with Ultra.

 

@Ranver I know exactly what you are saying and I agree. Better hardware doesn't always mean bigger and better. It is just something that sprung to mind when I thought of what is next gen.

I think that is where some indie games will come into there own this gen. They do not have to be the best looking games, but some of them will have fantastic gameplay and concepts. There is a few I am really looking forward to, but like you said for the
PC, they are not as appealing to a lot of people in the console community.
