What is with the 10GB patch updates?

Who cares, really? a minor annoyance. Everyone wants everything at no cost

 

@redeye....all those items I listed add up to larger game file sizes. Therefore, any additions/patches/adjustments to those large game files will also be large. Get it?

 

I think developers need to be more careful in the file structure of a game. Dead Rising 3 had a patch that was literally the entire size of the game install 13GB. I think a lot of the game assets they needed to change were in a single file that couldn't
have files injected. Could have been maybe less than a 100MB of changed textures, models, sounds whatever they actually needed to update.

 

Well doing at 1080p takes more then 100MB. The sound part can be fix at 100MB. To fix the textuer in game needs bigger file size.

 

You people really think the jump from ~720P on 360 to 1080P on XB1 justifies the games ending up 10x the size, much less the updates all being multi-gigabyte!? Get *** real. Just proves fanboys will defend anything.

 

Nolife......im not defending anything.... its just not that big a deal to me..... if the extra 10g is a part of the original install or an after the fact download....I really don't care.

Unless you are saying there should be neither.... then I think you could be getting onto areas neither one of us understand.

Nolife if was the case. Why we need BR keep the game on. And all HD movies disc have used a BR disc to store them.

 

It's maybe time to upgrade your 128k internet connection....

So far,games or updates are under 10X the size than Xbox 360.Never saw 80GB file size on Xbox one.

 

it's probably because the games aren't finished yet, like all the xbone games at launch. they probably need 4-6 weeks before release date to start production. So they make what's finished and use the big patch for the rest. there's no need for 10-40 gig
patches unless the game is unfinished.

 

Not too much of a big deal for me since I don't have a cap on my internet connection but it does make me question it though... Exactly why is it 10+GB? Better optimization for the game? I doubt it. I just finished mission 4 on Sniper Elite 3 and I had some
major frame drops when I was trying to clear a path for the rescued prisoner. It really does make me think if that the Xbox One is really that under-powered or Rebellion did a bit of a rubbish job on making the Xbox One version.

 

Not sure why but I know when I click a game and see "an update is needed for this game" I put my controller down, and leave it for several hours because my net is crap lol

 

The reason a lot of games have bigger sizes is likely down to audio file sizes as they tend to be uncompressed. At least this was the case for Titanfall any way. Obviously the texture resolution is higher as well, but they won't make up such a massive difference
in file size.
