You must have laughed alot then. Like, several hundred thousand times. Once I got a slim(s) all my issues went away as well. Xbox fixed the problem and still keep an external power supply.

Someone who laughs at other peoples misfortunes, who is a community helper on another website. It is wrong, Heaven forfend i should want help from someone who says that. While you snigger behind you pc screen at other people issues

    -

Well i hope you don't do it to people who are having problems on the site you lovingly link in your Sig. You sir/madam need to look at it from the hundreds of thousands of people that had the issue. Especially as Microsoft admitted it was their fault and
    replaced them all.

Wii U and XB1 have external power bricks (Wii U brick is just over an inch shorter). I don't see the issue personally. It reduces heat and simplifies repairs due to a faulty PSU.

  5. HairyLove, I'm the type of person who does enjoy helping people however at the same time, I hate having my time wasted. I like people that need help to actually be able to receive it, but that is incredibly difficult with the number of trolls on this forum.
I'd name a few however 'Naming and Shaming' isn't really permitted. In my years of helping people with the Xbox 360, I've dealt with people wanting to rip Microsoft a new one because their Xbox 360 is overheating or acquired the RROD, only to discover the
conditions that plenty of these complaints were coming from, such as having a portable heater on Max sitting next to their Xbox 360 or people putting their Xbox 360s in nearly encased enclosures with minimum air flow and almost guaranteed heat build up.

    .

If someone has a legitimate complaint, it's pretty easy to tell. It's pretty easy to make our bogus, fake complaints such as this thread where OP is complaining and insulting Microsoft for having an external power brick. So while I admit my wording in my
above post, wasn't the best and I could have definitely said it a lot better, the message doesn't change.

However, those that defend it for its heat reducing magic or ease of repair make me laugh.

    [/quote]

What's so funny about people giving rational explanations as to why the power supply is external?

Sorry, I don't get the joke.

  9. Karch, when these forums are continuously filled with childish and fake complaints, screaming bloody murder about nothing more than an aesthetic preference isn't a conversation. Sorry!

  10. The 'wars' that happen on these threads are the main reason I don't post in them all that often. Well, at least as much as I'd like sometimes. Thing is, I just like to help out by sharing what I know, or my opinion. I just think most people come in here
with their minds already made up... they either like or dislike... and all they want to do is argue their point as opposed to understanding someone else's.

Oh well, I'll take a shot at explaining the whole power brick thing from what I know. I remember reading a few articles and maybe even saw a video documentary on XBL awhile back about the power brick being external and why. If memory serves, one occasion they interviewed
some people who worked on the Xbox 360 design.

Designing a console happens in phases. Marketing people want it to convey a certain look and make it appealing. Concept artist/designers have to take the ideas from marketing and flesh them out by coming up with a (actually several) concept art rendition.
Then it's up to engineers to design all the hardware to work within the confines of the concept design. All of these groups have to work and communicate closely with each other in order to put it all together and hash out the conflicts between concept and
    what is possible.

For instance, the original Xbox's aesthetic design was intended to signify that it was 'exploding with power' in essence, since it was MS's first console to 'burst onto the scene'.

For the Xbox 360, they wanted to go with a new, sleek and updated look that was more modern and refined. They wanted it to give a sense of 'about to explode with power', hence the concave design... and smaller form factor. However, the biggest problem they
ran into was with the Power Supply in question and it presented several issues. First, having a PS that needed to deliver that much more power fit into a smaller form factor without causing heat problems wasn't happening. Could they have included the PS inside
the Xbox 360? Of course! But it wouldn't have met the demands of the concept that marketing wanted. They would have to make the console itself large enough to accommodate both the space and the appropriate air flow to properly ventilate the heat. Simple as
    that.

Not to mention, can you imagine how heavy the thing would be if the PS was also inside the console? I believe one of the interviewers even humorously commented on this little fact, saying the console itself was heavy enough without the PS in it.

Also, just to touch on the 'it's easier to service' subject, let's get to the core of this little part of the debate. A console that needs serviced, whether it's the PS that needs service or something else, has to be opened up by service techs. A PS that is
separate still has to be opened up. Although TBH, I'll admit that it is easier to service a PS that is a stand alone unit than it is to poke around inside the chassis of a device to get to the PS. But let's be honest... MS wouldn't really care either way in
the service aspect. MS pays their service techs to service their products and it doesn't matter (that much) to them how easy or difficult it is. But... going back to the weight comment... it certainly would cost more to ship back a whole console (and vice
versa) than it would to ship back just the power brick, wouldn't it? And we all know which way they will go when it comes to shaving cost...

Whatever the reason for MS going with an external PS for the XB1 is, it probably falls along the same basic idea as its predecessor and TBH I feel it's better that way. Even if it's just 'an ounce of prevention' I'd rather it be that way than not be.

Anyway, take it FWIW. Believe it or not, like it or not... but to turn something this petty into an argument is just ridiculous.

Well, I went and re-read this thread because I could remember anybody "screaming bloody murder" or any "wars". I still can't. Like I said in one of my earlier posts, I would prefer an internal power supply (like all of my other A/V gear) simply because
of how it works / looks with my A/V set-up. I get that most people don't care about this stuff. But, also like I said before, it's not that big of a deal. For clarification as someone who is a bit of an enthusiast in home theatre I take very, very good
care of my gear. I went through 4 launch design 360's with their external power supply. Thousands of people had them RROD with the launch design (get it, it was not heat from the power supply). My two "slims" have worked flawlessly. My launch PS3, with
its internal power supply, has worked flawlessly. @Blue- thanks for the reply. If I had to guess, like most have done in this thread, as to why M$ decided to do this I suspect that there is a cost component to it as well.

Count me as in the group that is annoyed by the power brick. I have a vertical AV rack where I attempt to keep all my electronics "neat" and orderly. The power brick messes this all up for me. My launch PS3 ran the Folding at Home application straight
for at least 3-4 years along with the occasional game and movie (no heat issues). I had 4 360's, with their low heat external power brick, overheat and RROD on me. I have a One and a PS4 now and the consoles are equally quiet. It would be nice to know the
technical reason that most other electronics have chosen to make it internal while Xbox has not.

Seriously though, it's a brick - that provides power. What more do you need to know? If you're unhappy with it & don't want it, then that's fine, but then you're stuck with another even bigger & very expensive brick that used to be your Xbox One console.
