What is the reason for the Xbox One Power BRICK?

Dont you know that the brick being external automatically makes it an accessory.. Therefor it is a forced accessory to the XB1 that we do not need... it should be internal like other consoles available and was only made external after E3 to drive the price
up.. so the evil empire M$ can drain us of more money because they do not care about the core gamers and are only in this business to make money.. not be our friends??

    (did I cover everything guys?)

  2. Because if there's a fault with your PSU they can replace the PSU rather than the entire system, saving money.

I love how a legitimate question is considered trolling. When still no one is able to determine why it's external when the PS4's is internal. PS4 took care of the heating factor so why can't the Xbox One?

If the Xbox One truly wants to be the number selling console (which it isn't) it needs to think like a number one selling console.

The fact is from a design perspective it's still poor, my PC and PS4 are all smaller than the Xbox One and ventilate just fine.

    [/quote]

Right. It's bigger than a damn VCR, but they couldn't find room for the power supply to be properly ventilated? That's just lazy and stupid, but the fanboys will defend anything whether there's a reason to or not. Even the original Xbox had internal power,
and that worked fine. I still have mine from launch day. They apparently have a bunch of idiots on their hardware engineering team now.

Power brick is an issue for trolls, what's next ?

Xbox consoles got a power brick since 2005,it's a bit late to notice and complains about it.

    It's called Engineering.
It's the same reason gaming laptops have large power bricks. It's the same reason mini ITX systems have power bricks.
The original XBOX's power draw when gaming was 70w.
    Then
you don't unplug and plug in the power cable on the console end very often. The original XBOX AC input is poorly designed, relying on the power board solder points to hold it in place. They have a tendency to break.

  6. If the power brick fails, a lot easier to deal with when external than internal.. (IE: My Tv exploded. Wish the power brick was external. Bad example but you get the logic).

Count me as in the group that is annoyed by the power brick. I have a vertical AV rack where I attempt to keep all my electronics "neat" and orderly. The power brick messes this all up for me. My launch PS3 ran the Folding at Home application straight
for at least 3-4 years along with the occasional game and movie (no heat issues). I had 4 360's, with their low heat external power brick, overheat and RROD on me. I have a One and a PS4 now and the consoles are equally quiet. It would be nice to know the
technical reason that most other electronics have chosen to make it internal while Xbox has not.

Meh, some of us like to do a 30 hour gaming session when we know we have the next day off. Some are insane. My cables are hidden, and safe from the fish tan next to it. So, yea. Some like it, some don't. I could care less as long as everything is working
    properly.

Yeah, I agree. It's a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things. However, those that defend it for its heat reducing magic or ease of repair make me laugh.

  10. I only support it when it goes bad. I have a rather low tolerance for the smell of burning plastic. That being said, I worry for my new TV.

It doesn't need to be defended or attacked, it is what it is.....some people just have too much time on their hands.

How do you know how much time I have? Are you an undercover M$ employee spying on me through the Kinect camera? (gets up, stares at the camera)

I don't see why it would make you laugh. Unless you somehow defy laws of nature, I'm pretty sure that it does make the console itself run cooler. Whether it would make or break anything is a different question. Playstation has showed it can be inside just
fine, but it being outside most certainly makes the console itself run cooler and require less sacrifices inside the case.

Repairability is a very legit argument too. PSU breaking isn't even uncommon with most technology.

I've never been one to care much for aesthetics, but when internal power brick only serves and aesthetic purpose and having it outside at the very least means I can exchange it myself if it breaks as opposed to buying a whole new console (supposing warranty
is out), I see a whole lot more reasons to prefer it external than internal.

I'd somewhat get it if we'd talk about a mobile device of any sort. Xbox One isn't such. I guess I can also understand if some people have such set ups that power bricks will show and make it look meh (like transparent setups, etc), but there are only positive
sides for having an external power brick for my (and I'd figure most people's) living room setups while internal power supply really has very little else going for it except "but power bricks are ugly!".

Usually the only argument I see is "but it's 2013/2014!". Indeed, it means tech uses more power than it ever has due to a lot more powerful components, thus more heat as well What is the reason for the Xbox One Power BRICK? :p Obviously PSU tech also evolves and they run cooler and in smaller space etc,
but I guess I just don't care for "2013/2014" then, much like when people complain about the batteries of X1 controller. I sure as heck would not want an internal battery that is not user-exchangeable. Not only does the PS4 controller have like.. 5-8 battery
life, you can't do a damn thing about it. At least with my "lol antique xbox one controller" I can get more powerful rechargeable batteries or choose from a wide array of battery kits for it. This went sorta offtopic, but I find it a very similar argument.
2014 or not, some "older things" still have their pros.

I guess what made me laugh was the fact that 4 Xbox 360's, with their external power brick, RROD on me while my launch PS3 with its internal power supply runs perfectly to this day. Somehow, Sony is able to "defy the laws of nature" like you said. But,
like I mentioned, it's really not that big of a deal its just annoying for me and how I have my set up. Also, if you've been in these forums for awhile, you will remember that going back to the 360's first major re-design everyone was speculating that M$
would have an internal power supply.

  15. What's always made me laugh is anyone who encountered the RROD, none of my 3 xbox 360s ever had the RROD. The first, I broke the disc tray. The 2nd was used and on its last leg after like 2 years and my new Slim has been working perfectly for 2 years.
