What is the point of having a Xbox One?

I'm still not understanding why some of you expect PC gamers to be charged.

I don't play Titanfall. I know it's on Origin but does it use MS servers and allow cross play with Xbox users?

I own Microsoft games on Steam but they don't connect to the Live service or use MS servers. How can anyone possibly justify me paying to access my games on Steam just because MS is the publisher?

Other than the games running on the Windows OS PC gamers don't have any need for MS's Live services, we can already do everything it has to offer and actually do it better because we have more options (3rd party).

:)

2. What is the point of the beta?

Only thing I was not a fan of was the map choice, not sure if they had to chose it or maybe DICE and EA were looking to attract the COD crowd by using a vehicle-less map with close quarter combat.Who knows? All I know is that DICE has said that most of the
bugs are gone in the full version and I have confidence that they will fix any new ones that present themselves with title updates.

Matt has a solid point. An open beta not only allows companies to test their code but also allows consumers to provide feedback. So in that sense it becomes a (light) demo in which players can get a feel for the game and make a decission if they are going
to buy it.
How about this - to Dice it's a Beta test. If you want to consider it a demo, that's your choice.
Now with this beta Dice is using old code, with limited functions (destruction, no squad creation with friends) and no vehicals. I would be interested how this will effect their so called server load test? In any event, no matter what their logic is, one
still got to ask "why they chose the map they did?"
Call 'em and ask 'em then. there isn't a person on this forum that knows Dices test procedures, so I have a problem with the ones that say "They're not doing X, they're doing Y". Same on the map, though we all can see that ancillary to the Beta is snagging
some of that MW3 money.
Witht he current economy and all these triple A titles coming out in the next few months, it is amazing Dice made some of the choices they did.
Time will tell. Hoping for a good release too.

It just won't happen....It's that simple. MS would be so stupid to even attempt to charge pc user's, and they know this.

PC users shouldn't be charged for anything. They are so much better than console gamers in every way. We are the scum of the industry whilst they are the cream of the crop. They rule, we drool. We should bow down to their almighty superiority. PC gamers
are just too good for everybody. They should stay perched up on their high horses. They are simply too amazing. They shouldn't have to pay for anything. How dare anyone think otherwise.

I don't think anyone is saying that....

I think a more fair comparison would be Sony asking Xbox users to pay for PS Plus. If you want my money you have to give me something in return and that's what I'm asking...what are they giving to a PC gamer?

7. The point to having an XBOX ONE is because not all of us are PC gamers. Don't get me wrong PC does have it's ups, however I can't see myself ever buying a gaming PC. And it's going to be quite sometime for a lot of games to become compatible with Windows
10.

But like Goatsnatcher said it's always good to have options.

What is the point of having a Xbox One?

look at this way.. will PC users get a GWG for PC use only? if so... how is that fair to the Console members that get it because they are "gold"(XBL Subscription) member but if all you need to do to get a game for the PC is have the app and an internet connection..

Sure if all they will get on the PC is an app for social features (chat, messages etc, dvr) it shudl be free... but if they expect more to it.. like grabbing games with gold games through the merged XB store... I can guarantee there will be some type of
fee based that tier of service...

and not all games will be cross platform play... seems like some thinl every game made for now on will be used on a PC.. and remember, the streaming is just the visuals running from your Console, using the XB hardware, being shows through your network to
what ever display you have connected to the network... do not think just because you have a top of the line gaming rig and you are streaming Titanfall, it will automatically play it at 4K @150FPS

That's the part I'm not getting....if you're a PC gamer without a Xbox what does getting GWG get you? They're going to give me Steam, Blizzard, Origin, Desura games for free? The only games MS has control over on the PC are the app style games in their Win
8 store. I haven't played any of the multiplayer ones....do you connect to Live when you play them?

I seriously doubt the xbox app will include anything apart from the feed, the dvr, msg/chat.

That's the way I'm looking at it....a new and improved SmartGlass with more features but if you don't own a Xbox I wouldn't see any reason to even install it.

I don't know Rand. If you mainly game on say pc but do have some friends on xbox, it is a good way for everyone to follow eachother and chat/msg without having to leave their preferred platform.

I suppose if someone has only ever games on pc and has no friends on xbox, then I see your point.

13. What is the point of having a Xbox One?

Granted you can do more on a PC, but the XB1 is close to catching up for everything I need - I can browse (most of) the web, watch movies or TV, listen to music, and of course, play games. All that's left for me that's needed is MS Office and I would be
good to go (but of course, we all know that's not coming to the XB1 anytime soon, if at all).

15. You kind of do have it.

Just go to OneDrive.com in the Internet Explorer app and use the online version of Microsoft Office available there.

The site doesn't have everything of course, just basic versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. They are feature rich enough though to do the office work most people would want from those programs. Just plug in a USB keyboard for typing and away you go.

You should even be able to print if you have a wireless printer on your network. I don't have one to be able to check the feature.

Edit: The controller as your 'mouse' doesn't feel quite natural but I'm sure if you used it often enough for that task you'd soon get used to it..
