    Chatpad issues with XBOX ONE S controller (won't fit)

    Okay did a little measuring while waiting for a response... so far it looks like the issue is that whatever connector is at the bottom of the XBOX ONE S controller... it is not meant for whatever is on the connector of my XBOX ONE Chatpad (the chatpad is
    indeed the official microsoft one).

    Its like the connector for the XBOX ONE S controller is meant for something a little wider... that's why it feels like when I try to plug in the chatpad something is pushing back... the flat 'slab' type thing inside the connector is slightly wider than what
    is on the chatpad... at least that's what I seem to find with my controller... I'm not speaking for all the other XBOX ONE S controllers or chatpads...

    I have a headset adapter that I will try now... I was hoping to avoid opening the package unless I really needed it... but here goes... :/

    You need the cable because your headset is 2.5 millimeter connector and the controller is a 3.5 millimeter connector

    Did the headset microphone work before? Or is that a new headset, and it has never worked ever?

    What kind of headset is your son using? Is it an original Xbox chat headset with a wide connector that goes into the USB-like connector, or are you using a 3.5mm jack headset with three rings on the connector?

    Hi,

    Well first as you suggest I would update the controller or make sure it is on the latest firmware. Is the new controller is an official xbox one or an OEM ? Can you confirm whether the original xbox chat headset works with both controllers as this is a simple
    test of connection. I think I am right in saying that iPhone headsets will NOT work in xbox controllers as they have a slightly different connector (which carries control for music and answer call etc.). Let me know how the above goes.

    Do you have a headset where this worked before? Or did you change headsets and since then the Microphone is muted?

    There are two types of 3.5mm headphone jacks called OMTP and CTIA. On both standards, the microphone connector is switched with the ground connector. So if you have an OMTP headset, the controller is listening for a microphone on the ground connector, while
    the microphone sends signals to the controller ground.

    The headset works just fine with both computers, ipads and phones. It just does not work with any of my two original wireless xbox controllers.

    I have been testing two other headsets with 3.5mm connectors, they also works fine on all other devices except my two original wireless controllers.

    Im starting to think that the quality and function of the 3.5mm connection is an area of improvment in xbox original controllers. The controllers are not that old either so im thinking software issues here.
