What if I never download system updates?

So I'm currently among the Xone-X users facing the bootup debacle/HDD failure/startup errors, etc.

When the August 13, 2019 system update came out, I was excited as I thought it might fix these annoying bootup errors and failed to load game save errors due to the internal HDD going bad or software corruption on the HDD - which BTW I've learned is to blame
not on the HDD directly but weak capacitors which repeatedly cause data corruption on the HDD and cause the CPU and GPU to misbehave as well (asset streaming issues anyone?). 1 GB of space going to waste...

Anyway, since I can't update my console the regular way (it just stops at a certain percentage, either while downloading, verifying or applying and gives me all the bootup errors one by one) - I hurriedly downloaded the OSU1 file
from the support section here at MS, assuming that it would contain the latest system update version (10.0.18362.6065).

Turns out I went through all that trouble for nothing - as it took me a few factory resets and at least 5 tries to get the console to update from the USB stick - and also because the USB update is still the July version! *5047 are
    the last four digits*

I recently created a post about system updates, and one of the moderators or ambassadors I think said that the latest system files are updated on OSU1 when new system updates become available.

Anyway - do I really need system updates? Can I do without them? I just want to continue playing games. It's bad enough already having to clear local saved games every few days and resync or worse case scenario, boot up the console
    again using a USB.

I can't really download system updates the regular way, so am I losing out on anything by not getting the update?

Finally, is there any permanent solution to these bootup errors and problems, game load errors and failure to update system or install/use anything from the internal HDD - without actually replacing the console?

I've heard many reports of people getting the internal HDD replaced and facing the exact same issues in as little as a few weeks.

It makes me question the build quality of the One-X. can someone please elaborate on the weak capacitor issue and HDD going bad as a result. It makes sense if you think about it because unless the 'design flaw' is corrected, you're
going to continue to get HDD corruption/problems booting up and loading game saves, no matter how many times you replace it.

Sorry for the long post - would love to hear everyone chime in. Thanks!

P.S: My original fat Xbox One still runs flawlessly - got it in 2014 and have played games on the internal HDD only.

    :)

What if I never download system updates?

The Updates System is to Add new functions on your console and Fix security insues But before the launch to end user, the updates is testing by insiders team were they make testing and give report to Engeniers team from Microsoft
I'm already aware of that - my question was: what if I never update the console - can I still play games normally?

Can you elaborate on the security issues please?

Also, why isn't the OSU1 file updated in the support section for those who can only download new system updates through a USB? It's still the July 2019 version.

System updates are a must for most things to run right and fix bugs

What if I never download system updates?

Just to add: MS should clearly mention what version of the system update the current OSU1 files correspond to.

OSU1 is for Xbox One-X, am I right?

    Hey Speedster

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums.

In regards to the OSU files, those are updated frequently, and are always up-to-date.

However, the OSU does not carry the full update and you will still need to connect to Xbox Live to complete this process.

We will now be converting this to a discussion, as we feel this will more greatly benefit your thread.

Thank you for being part of the Xbox Family and we wish you a wonderful day.

What if I never download system updates?

Yeah, it is what it is. Tough luck I suppose.

Ironic that my fat Xbox-one still runs flawlessly to this day and 95% of the time I've used everything on the internal storage.

What other options do I have apart from the OSU1 system update?

By the way, is there any way to check what version the OSU1 offline update is? On the support page it says that the OS received an update on Aug 13, 2019 - but the OSU1 file I downloaded again on Aug 14 (stupidly assuming that it would have the latest files)
updates the system to the July OS version.

Hasn't MS updated the offline files to the latest Aug 19' OS version, you reckon?
