What happens to 360 account when renew Live Gold on Xbox One?

I play xbox games w my son. We have a Xbox 360 & two Xbox One consoles in the house. His Xbox Live Gold membership just expired.

    Ideally we want two things:

    1) Use 1-membership to give us both access to play Xbox One games together online on separate consoles in the house

    2) He will still want to play games with his friends occasionally on his 360

    How do we do this?

    A) Should I add Gold to my account or renew his?

    B) If we renew on the Xbox One, does Gold apply to his 360 account too?

    Thanks

    :)

How to Renew your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership

    Overview of Xbox LIVE Renewal

When your current Xbox LIVE Gold Membership is about to run out, you will get a renewal message on your screen.

    • Month-to-month membership- Notification comes 15 days in advance
    • 3 or 12 month membership- Notification comes 30 days in advance
Xbox LIVE membership can be renewed using a credit card, a debit card, or a Prepaid Gold Membership Card.

If your automatic membership renewal (auto renewal) is set to off, you can purchase a new subscription or use a prepaid membership card to renew your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership.

Renew with a payment option by purchasing a new membership:

    Steps to Follow

    1) Use your Xbox LIVE gamertag to sign in.

    2) Under Settings, select Account.

    3) Proceed to Your Memberships, and select the membership that you currently have (for example Xbox LIVE Gold)

    4) Select Modify Membership and you will be presented with a list of renewal options. If you are on an Xbox LIVE Free Membership, you can choose to upgrade to Gold Membership.

    5) Select a membership option, then Confirm Purchase.

Once you have confirmed your purchase, the following will happen:

    • The payment option you are using will be charged immediately.
    • The time subscription plan you have just purchased will be added to your remaining subscription time.
    • Your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership will be activated and auto renewal turned on.
    Take note:

If you use a credit card as your payment option, you cannot remove it on file until your current membership expires.

There is a procedure you can follow to add or change your Xbox LIVE payment option.

Renew with a prepaid membership card

It is possible to renew your Xbox LIVE membership using a Prepaid Microsoft Gold Membership Card. This card is available at retail locations.

If you choose to redeem a prepaid Xbox LIVE membership code, you will be added time to your existing Xbox LIVE membership, while your renewal settings will remain unchanged.

How to turn on auto renewal (for existing membership):

If you are already on Xbox LIVE Gold of Family Pack membership and you want to turn on auto renewal without purchasing new membership, you should contact Xbox Support.

How to Troubleshoot Xbox LIVE renewal:

If there are issues with your Xbox LIVE account, you might receive the following messages. The solutions are provided below:

    • Error: Your credit card has been declined several times by our billing service.
This means that your credit card has expired, or the information on it has been changed. To solve this problem, there is a procedure you can follow to change payment option for Xbox LIVE membership.

    • Error: 8015d080
In case you receive this error message, you need to contact Xbox Support.

How to Turn off auto renewal or cancel Xbox LIVE membership

How to turn off auto renewal

It is recommended that you cancel your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership using the option of turning off automatic renewal. If auto renewal is "off", your membership will expire at the end of its current term.

    Steps to follow:

    1) If you are not already signed in, click Sign In at the upper right hand corner and sign in using your Microsoft account.

    2) Proceed to My Account.

    3) Click Change next to automatic renewal. Change the setting to OFF

You will be able to continue enjoying all the benefits of Xbox LIVE Gold Membership until your paid membership time expires.

    Note:

If you want to cancel or disable your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership immediately, you should contact Xbox support. Use the Request a Call from Support option on the official Xbox Contact Us page. Your account cannot be canceled through chat or email.

If you disable your account immediately, you will lose the time remaining on your membership subscription.

If you are on a 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract, and you want to cancel before the end of the 2 years, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and other applicable taxes. Once the two-year agreement period is over, your account will not be renewed automatically.

You can cancel the 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract using the option of self-cancel your subscription on Xbox.com

What happens to 360 account when renew Live Gold on Xbox One?

    Hi there,

a Xbox Live Gold subscription is connected to an Xbox Live Account, so if your account has a Gold subscription it will have that Gold subscription on any console (that is connected to Xbox Live)

Since your son wants to play online on his 360 at some time too, his account will require Gold.

For your account it depends on the situation, if you want to play online on any of the Xbox One consoles your account will need to have a Gold subscription too, but if you only want to play online on one of the consoles, your sons account is able to set
that console as Home console, which will share his Gold subscription on that console and allow all profiles on that console to use the Gold benefits. This will be the same for any digital content connected(bought with) to your sons profile.

Be aware that a Home console can only be set 3x per year though.

For more information see this link about thee Home console setting:
    support.xbox.com/.../xbox-live-gold-sharing-features

For troubleless gaming in your situation it might be best to each have it's own Gold subscription

    Thanks for the quick reply.

So his Gold account can't cover his Home Xbox console & mine at the same time even though they are in the same house?

For us to play online games together on separate consoles we would need 2 Gold subscriptions?

To clarify what WPAK was saying, if your son set your primary console as Home, the benefits of the Gold account would be shared - any profile on the Home Xbox would be able to access Gold features, and he can do the same on his account on any other console.

So then you play on the Home Xbox (signed in to your own account) and he on the other (signed into his own account), and you can both benefit from a single Gold account. This also means that any digital/download games purchased by his account will be playable
by his account *and* the Home Xbox you're on - at the same time. For discs you obviously need one disc per console.

With this arrangement, your Silver account can *only* play online multiplayer on the Home Xbox - not any other console, unlike his Gold account which could migrate to any console in the world and still have access to Gold features.

WPAK mentioned at the end that it becomes a lot simpler to have one Gold account each, but it's not necessary.

Hope that helps clarify things. Feel free to ask any more questions you may have.

    Xbox Live Gold

    Hi MichaelXtep,

On Xbox one, your Xbox Live Gold must be active in order to play any "Games with Gold" titles.

On Xbox 360, you play any "Games with Gold" titles without having Xbox Live Gold.

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/xbox-live-membership/games-with-gold-faq

I recommend you restarting your Xbox by holding down the power button on your Xbox. Once it restart, see what happens when you try to renew your Gold. Also, if you have the Xbox App on your phone you can renew from there too.

Also, check your Xbox messages and see if you have any messages from Xbox Live. Once you go to your message tab you will see chats, message requests, and messages from Xbox live. They will send you messages when your Xbox Live gold couldnt be renewed.

Não consigo comprar o Xbox live gold - I can not buy Xbox Live Gold

    Hello ,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that you are attempting to purchase

    Xbox Live Gold
, but the Xbox website is only giving you the option to manage the subscription instead of buy it. Do you use an Xbox One, Xbox 360 or Windows 10 device? If you use an Xbox 360 or Xbox One, does the option to renew your subscription appear
    in the Xbox store
on the console? What happens when you select to renew the subscription on
    the Microsoft website
? Be sure to let us know the results!
    I'm using Xbox
one, when I click on renew goes to the first image to "Manage", after the manage it back to second image to renew and so on
