What game soundtracks would you recommend?

I'm a big fan of music, especially game music.

I listen to halo, cod, battlefield, the division, warface, and just started listening to destiny. I like all kinds of variety of instrumental/electronic music

yes, several. I used to love the Final Fantasy sound tracks. nobuo uematsu is a musical genius.

I've got some music from "Morrowind", "Skyrim" and "Fallout 3" on my iPhone.



I'm still on the look out for a hard disc copy of the original "Mass Effect" soundtrack.



"Grand Theft Auto III" took it's soundtrack from me so I didn't need to get that one.



Now if I could just find an official version of "Tank!" from "Cowboy Bebop" that would be every video game and anime soundtrack I should ever require.

Years ago I picked up the PC version of Burn Cycle. It came with a CD of the soundtrack and I used to play it all the time. It's reminiscent of Blade Runner and very cool.

 

Get the FEZ soundtrack from Disasterpeace. It sounds like chip-tune music but it's not actually chip-tune music. What I found was that this music helped make the FEZ gameplay experience so extraordinary. The music conveys feelings of wonder, whimsy, and
melancholy, sometimes all at once. It reminded me of Boards of Canada. But this soundtrack really stood out for me.

 

Honestly, the soundtrack i reccomend is a real throwback. If you can find this old Xbox original, Jet Set Radio Future has one of the dopest setlist of all time. A fusion of hip hop, electronic, and Japanese pop music makes this open worlder a real goody.

I have to say that Tales from the Borderlands introduced me to some really awesome music, not sure if it's the type you'd be looking for, but it lead me to Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra who does covers of a lot of popular music. Highly recommend!

 

The Witcher 2's soundtrack album is quite good and still fresh on repeated listens. There is plenty of variety, from full orchestral pieces to metal.

I used to think that the free downloadable Portal 2 soundtrack was good, but I was wrong. Other than a few novel bits I now consider it a waste of listening time. The music and soundscapes works best in the game, just not on their own.

Similarly, the Bulletstorm soundtrack (included as a free download with the game) has a great opening theme, but I don't care for the rest of it.

The soundtrack to Journey was nominated for an Academy Award. It is a good soundtrack but to me it feels ordinary and unremarkable on its own. However, if you can play the game -- it's a Playstation exclusive -- then do so because the music marries perfectly
with the game and it will make you cry by the end.
