What Files to Back Up to Prevent Reset?

Hello. I have recently started this game and have already had it reset on me. I read on a forum that someone saved a back up copy but was unable to find exactly which files to back up. I know it's in the appdata/local/packages/ms folder. I just don't want
to keep saving the whole thing.

I tried saving the settings.data but was unable to get back to original part. Can someone please let me know which files to save? It's frustrating to lose all progress.

    :)

Games can prevent copying of their save files. When that's the case, you can only move the file between devices, and the cloud is your best bet for back-up.

Help ! Console is not working after update error

I recommend get the UPS power back up such as APC and other brand that help to prevent brown-out or power failures. when power goes failed and the UPS keep power on while updating files or saving profiles.

I restored the whole "Microsoft.MicrosoftTreasureHunt_8wekyb3d8bbwe" directory, including all its subdirectories/files, and ended up losing 105 levels of progress instead of all 152 levels of progress.

However, that method may only work for the same user on the same machine with the same install of Windows and the same app version of Treasure Hunt. I tried a similar restore for Mahjong (I lost all my Mahjong medals in October after trying Windows 10)
and I was unable to start Mahjong after restoring the data.

If you have a second Windows 8.1 device, it might be safer to periodically open Treasure Hunt on that device as another user suggested in the "Reset" thread, which will give you a ready-to-go working backup if you need it.

I have finally completed the last achievement and worked around the reset problems that plagued my machine. The game was consistently crashing around levels 40-60. Here's what I did.

    1. Created a folder on my desktop called THBackup.

    2. After exiting the mummy shop at about level 25 or so, I would exit the game and copy the entire contents of the Windows/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Packages/Microsoft.MicrosoftTreasureHunt_8wekyb3d8bbwe directory into the backup folder.

    3. I would repeat the copy every time I exited the mummy store so I would never lose more than 5 levels.

My game crashed and reset completely at least 3 times but each time I would copy the contents from this backup folder back to the Packages folder and each time it restored as expected. I would be back at the most recent level I had copied.

    Notes:

    1. When I started copying there were only 200 or so files, by the time I ended there were 800.

    2. When it asked if I wanted to replace the files already in the folder with the same name, I said 'yes.'

    3. Sometimes a file wouldn't copy because it was too long. I ignored these.

    4. Sometimes a file wouldn't copy because it was still "in use". To make sure all files were completely released by the game or Windows I would restart my Surface before making the copy. Exit mummy store, exit game, restart, copy into backup folder, restart.

    5. I didn't want to take the time to figure out exactly which file or files were needed as the copying took less than a minute.

    6. I finally got the final item from the store at Level 136.

    7. To expedite things, at about level 35 when I had some decent coin, I would intentionally die four or five times in a row to quickly get back to the store to buy something else. The price of the amulet of rebirth goes up exponentially so you can't do this
too many times. I did die unintentionally later on but luckily I had 1,000,000+ needed to buy a new amulet at that time.

  6. That sounds similar to what I did.

I would rightdrag the Microsoft.MicrosoftTreasureHunt_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder to my desktop, then select the 7Zip option to create an archive. These archives were only 66 megs around Level 30, but ended up hitting over 100 megs after Level 100. I have over
a gig of them in case they might be useful for troubleshooting purposes.

I did a backup every time I found one of the bonus level staircases, as the reset mostly occurred with the bonus level video.

I'd tried the "Die on purpose" trick to go back to the Shop as many times as possible some time back and ran into the same roadblock.

My last time around I just started over from scratch with the bigger tube/belt/bag sizes, but had to play through 30 levels to get enough gold to buy any upgrades.

In the process of this last trip through the levels, I unintentionally won the "Bats" achievement, and finally got "All Decked Out" around Level 134.

As the Shop kept offering me expensive Shields that I didn't want if I had less than 20, I had to carry over 20 shields and waste a ton of maps/pickaxes/dynamite to avoid losing them.

Now that I finally have everything, I can go back to a more gold-efficient manner of playing: If I find a bonus level staircase on a tough level, I leave it (and as much treasure as possible) alone until I'm down to my last heart, then play the bonus level
to get back to 5 hearts, and then pick up all the treasure with the 4 leaf clover from the bonus level.

  7. Brickdeath, are you saying that having over 20 shields helped to allow you to get other items in the shop (ie. hearts)? I'm losing my mind playing hundreds of levels and always getting shields, but I just started to try to hoard shields. Pretty much my
last hope on getting hearts - I got the capacity upgrades ages ago, but have only seen hearts once in many dozens of visits to the shop, and I didn't have the money for it that time. :-(

What do your upgrades look like? Hearts max out at 5, and the Pickaxes, Dynamite, and Maps all max out at 30. Once you hit this, you should get the "All Decked Out" achievement.

The first time I played through I still hadn't gotten all the upgrades by Level 150, but the second time I played through, I was "All Decked Out" by Level 130. The only thing I did different the second time was to carry 20-30 shields, and to waste a lot
of maps/pickaxes/dynamite to avoid losing any of them. This creates the Catch-22 of having to spend a lot of gold replenishing maps/pickaxes/dynamite, but not so much that you can't afford the next upgrade.

  9. Sorry I took so long to come back to this thread - I have all item upgrades (max 30 of each) but only 3 hearts. I've only had the option to buy a heart one time, and it was level 6 (didn't have enough money on hand).

I've been doing the save shields/rebuy items for over 100 levels now, and it gives me shields at the shop every single time. I'm at ~80 shields on hand now and still only get shields at the shop. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but this is completely ridiculous.
