  1. What exactly was Family Sharing

as MS are looking at ways to possibly re introduce the feature, talking with a few others raises the issue of just how much confusion there is to what it actually was, or at least what it was intended to be,

using this How Games Licensing Works on Xbox One - Xbox Wire as a reference, most of the contention seems to result from

"Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere:
Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house.
Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games,
and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."

i take this to mean that any members of the group can play at anytime regardless of whether or not someone else is already playing the same game as that is the definition of "anytime"

but if my interpretation of this is wrong and it is limiting use to one shared gamer at a time then would this not be easily circumvented by simply making sure any of the group who play the single player games simply log out of Live after the 24hr check
in thus allowing others to play until all 10 gamers are playing the same single player game

a little harder to do on MP if my interpretation of the quote is wrong

    thoughts ?

    :)

any one of". One account out of the up to ten you have listed as family members can play a game from your library.
If it was trivial to circumvent no publisher would want to be a part of it.
Yeah, don't try to game the system.

This is why it got scrapped, because people did not read everything or use their heads. The always online was to make sure

    A. You were not playing the game when a friend wanted to play a shared game.

    B. You did not sell it and then you or a friend tried to keep it.

I and many others said they should have alowed digital copies to keep these options and disks to not have them, so those that moaned and complained about always online could still play with disk in.

Mod, the 24 our check in I do not think was involved as much as people think for Family Sharing. It was more for the disc-less play to check for ownership rights. Since MS did not really explain how the family share worked as it was still in an early stage...
I am not sure but I have a feeling that you would need to be logged into XBL to use a friends game. Once you lost connection you wold get that lost connection to server like on EA games. I mean without XBL, how would your account check in to see if anyone
else was in "that" library you were trying to access or was already playing that game.

  7. thanks for the replys guys,

it would have been interesting to see what was to come had it been left to run its course, im guessing we'll never truly know as im sure any exec would be pretty tight lipped with the topic, but even still them trying to work something out for the current
situation is good enough for me as im all digital anyway

I don't think MS even had all the details worked when they announced it, and most like would have in the 6 months they still had before launch, real shame too, I was looking forward to this feature.

But according to Phil Spencer, Family Share is still on the table.

Family sharing as it is, is not good for us, yes my family can be added to my Xbox One and have all the gold privileges, but only on my Xbox One, I would like to see the old family gold re-introduced, it was a real bonus for us, I have put in the feedback,
    we'll see what happens.

  11. "Family Sharing as it is" is unfortunately none existent, Family Sharing is a different service to what use to be the Family Gold plan and both are none existent at this stage, i do like that the 1 Gold plan covers an XB1 in its entirety for every profile
    on that console,

me personally i would prefer the Family Sharing plan over the old Family Gold plan if it ever come down to choosing one or the other.

Family Sharing was to share digital games among 10 people,

How I keep thinking of this is, if I buy a game on my xbox (digitally) at my house and my brother/friend who is added as being part of my family would then be able to see all the games that I have bought and will buy minus my xbox gold covering all ten of
my family members. Much like how the home console is but on a slightly larger scale. Home console has been around a while and know know how it works. If you set your friends xbox as your home console and he does the same to your console then everything that
I buy (digitally) and my gold covers his xbox and I get all the games that he buys (digitally). So I keep thinking I add my brother and my friend to my family on Xbox then they should be able to see and play all games that I buy (digitally) but they still
have to buy their own gold subscriptions
