What does it feel like to play on Dedicated Servers?

First and foremost, thank you so much to " EnenDaveyBoy " for letting me know Destiny doesn't run on Dedicated Servers because I thought that it was.

........

With that being said, what does it feel like to play on a Dedicated Server? I have never play on a Dedicated Server so I am asking this question

They don't seem to be up. I'm seeing alot of host migrations and some lag so defo not playing on dedicated servers.

 

Play Halo 5 then Destiny. You will notice straight away.

Unfortunately, I abandoned the Halo franchise after Halo 4.

I had a lot of fun playing Spartan Ops, but it didn't feel like a Halo game anymore.

The last " real " Halo game that I played was Halo Reach. Halo Reach is my favorite game in the series because it is the perfect Halo experience for me LOL

Halo 5 Guardians is an even bigger departure from the Halo the I love, but I do recognize the excellent work that 343 Industries is doing and I hope that they keep it up

I will not be buying another Halo game ever again, unless of course they Re-Master Halo Reach LOL

To be honest I don't know either. Do they even have games that run on dedicated servers? Which ones im playing nhl16 and its bad

Overall, Destiny servers are really good

However, there are times when the game will repeatedly kick players out due to stuff going on in the Servers end

When I'm playing Call of Duty and check my network status, my latency is normally between 40-70ms, which is not bad, then I go play Titanfall and I see a 25-30ms in latency, it is nice having the slightly faster connection and fewer people that are yoyoing
around the map, and helps to prevent people from being able to affect a game, as I've heard some people doing in games like Destiny.

 

The same as about 10 years ago, there are Pros and Cons for both. Having a Dedicated Server does not mean "fix my internet".

 

you wont see any difference - people just think they do as its what they are told by the internet. Generally a server connection is more stable, but its not always the case.

Peer 2 Peer connection is where you connect to another player who 'hosts' the lobby. (see: Call of Duty)

Dedicated server is everyone is peered to that server, so in connection terms, you are still at the mercy of distance, traffic etc

 

My issue with dedicated servers has never been about lag, although a good dedicated server setup will make a difference if setup correctly, for me its about even play, peer to peer give the host an advantage, which is why Black OPs 2 while the game play
was good, you knew who was host in most games, half a seconds advantage in FPS shooters when most of the gameplay is on reaction is massive.

One other thing is uninterrupted game play, this means no host migrations, no delays if people leave or join, etc.

@ LethalSniper007 = I'm pretty sure that all Microsoft developed games run on Dedicated Servers, the other game developers not so much.

@ Zero Divided = I haven't encountered much of the yoyoing effect in Destiny, but I have seen it though and it is annoying.

@ LostKauz = My Wi-Fi internet connection is plenty capable of handling multiplayer gaming

@ iBakez = I see, so Dedicated Servers deliver a more stable gaming experience which is equivalent to a really good P2P connection

Having no host migrations sounds awesome

I think Diablo 3 vanilla (not Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition because I wouldn't even play that game even if it was free and someone paid me to play it) booted all of the players out to the pre-game screen when the host left the game.

I only played multiplayer on Diablo 3 vanilla a couple of times and I haven't played it (Diablo 3 vanilla) ever since I got Destiny
