What do you need to do to your 360 before you sell it / Trade it in?

So I have a good idea what to do but I just want to get all the steps straight.

The 360 has been amazing for over a decade but it's time to retire it as there's not much ocassion to turn it on nowadays.

So I need to wipe the Hard Drive and remove my details and just want to know what's the best way to do this.

Physically delete the profiles and all saves and then format the drive?

Or will formatting the drive simply be enough?

No card details have ever been held on this thing but want to make sure I do it right.

What steps will I need to take before taking it to a shop for trade in?

me and my friend are looking for two more people for co-op insanity also going to get all tags ect.. we are startting in 30min its 10:30cst and will cover the next few days send me a message on xbl if u want in only need two though

 

Can a new owner use my downloaded games?

Before you sell your console you will need to remove your profile from it. It is against the XBL Terms of Service to sell, trade or redistribute your account.



Simply go to the Memory Tab on your console and select profiles, then delete. Or you can just reformat the hard drive via System Settings.

 

Douse it in gasoline, drop a match, and make some smores. That's the only way to be completely safe.

There are other ways, I've had to reset everything before selling a few 360's actually. Those other methods don't result in getting smores at the end though.

 

Simply go into the settings and delete all your info including gamertag. Reformatting an officially licenced MS 360 hdd will imo errase the licence, and the next owner, like me. May wish to play BC origional xbox games on it one day.

 

Just format the hard drive Az.That'll wipe everything.

Yes AZ, Just a format is all that's needed. I gave away my Jasper this way and there's no indication that I was ever the owner.

 

He knows this info anyway, or does the man who knows everything not know everything......try walking or public transport to get to the shops.

 

Even though you only need to reformat it I still deleted my gamertag first just in case.

 

Delete everything on your console's HDD, try factory resetting it, delete profile.

Fact: There are still more people on Xbox 360 than there are on Xbox 1. Only 1/3 of my full Xbox 360 friends list have Xbox 1. Tonnes of young people play Minecraft Xbox 360 compared to Minecraft Xbox 1. Xbox 360 has a lot of hype. Microsoft knows this.
The way they created the UI on Xbox 360 is also amazing. Xbox avatars, the social page on Xbox 360's UI shows our avatars in parties and our friends avatars. The Xbox Guide Menu is also brilliant too. Xbox 1's UI is Windows 10 like. Xbox 360's UI makes it
effortless to play music in the background while playing games, without it looking too boxy or snappy like Windows 8/10.

I won't be getting rid of my Xbox 360 slim console which I got when I joined late 2010. I chose it over playstation cause Xbox Live is the best online service for consoles, and because of avatars and Xbox Live Party, voice messaging, and Xbox 360 is like
the ONLY 7th gen console with party chat and the way they incorporated it is great. Even half of my friends who have an Xbox 1, still return to Xbox 360. My Xbox 360 slim 250gb console starts up 2x faster than my Xbox 1 500GB Day 1 console. But Xbox 1 does
have it's awesomeness too. 300,000+ servers worldwide make playing Minecraft Xbox 1 version multiplayer fluid and butter smooth, a big difference with the limited servers worldwide which Microsoft has for Xbox 360 (only 15,000 servers worldwide).

 

I done what Brand did,

Deleted my GT/Profile etc first then formatted drive but your good to go Az by just reformatting.
