    What controller driver download do I need?


    I’m sorry I’m not a technological person but I’ll do my best! I got a new graphics card for my sons pc, whilst the person was installing they did something and wiped the computer so we have had to download windows 10 and start again. Before this happened he could use his Xbox controller with a cable but now he cannot. It says I do not have the driver. I tried the automatic install but it said it couldn’t find anything. I tried downloading the Xbox accessories app but I am unable to do so as a message comes up saying my browser needs updating, I do this and it still gives me the same message ( any ideas on this would be appreciated as I can’t download anything from the Microsoft store). So I found a list of driver downloads on the Microsoft updates page but I have no idea which one I need to download. He is using an Xbox one controller and the pc has windows 10 on it.

    Hi Jim,

    As Stuart mentioned, controller drivers on Windows 10 are updated with the operating system, so all you need to do is make sure your Windows operating system is up to date and then the drivers should e up to date. You don't need to download anything separately.

    Can you tell us what is wrong with the controller?

    Just make sure Windows is up to date, unplug the controller, restart the PC, and try again. Let us know what is wrong with the controller and we will be able to give you the best answer.

    Yes Im, let me simplify things down.

    1) Plug in to PC, doesn't automatically download Drivers.

    2) Manually download and install two Optional Windows Update

    4) Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11

    5) User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11

    6) Tried reconnecting the controller again, still no go, Windows Update unable to find the Drivers online

    7) Google around found the Drivers for the Xbox One Controller, download and installed it manually.

    8) Problem solved.

    Question !

    In future will I still need to install these both Optional Windows Update ?

    So again in future, do I have to manually install and download the Xbox One drivers like before ?? I was lucky to even find them online, what if I could no longer find it anymore in future. Of course I can back it up though, but by not having this Driver
    ready to download directly from Microsoft, what If even my Backup is lost, then Im basically screw.....since it won't download and install automatically !

    This is because you arent installing the right drivers

    There ARE no native drivers for ps4 or ps5 controllers you need wrapper drivers

    Either download steam and let.it run outside games under settings or download ds4win

    Sony controllers don't have native drivers you need a wrapper driver either steam or ds4win
