What can I buy with money in my Microsoft account?

I received an e-mail saying that I have $20 of promotional credit in my Microsoft account that will expire on October 6. I don't have a Windows phone/tablet, so I was trying to use it on an Xbox 360 game. Unfortunately, it seems like every game can only
be purchased through my credit card on file, and the Microsoft account isn't an option. So what can I actually buy before Microsoft decides they want their $20 back?

I bought for 20€ microsoft money at gamestop and the guy from gamestop told me i could also buy 3 months gold with the money from the microsoft account. So i went home and wanted to buy it but every time i go to the payment options i cant click on the option
to buy it with the microsoft money. It only says on the right side: Use your money from the microsoft account to buy xbox live gold. For more information go to commerce.microsoft.com . Then i go to this website but i cant find any information for how to buy
xbox live gold with the money from my microsoft account. Can somebody help me? PS: I havent got any other payment option on my xbox live profile.

 

If you are trying to make these purchases on the website that would be the problem. The website is not set up to use local currency in your Microsoft Account. Through your console you should be able to make the purchases.

 

FYI the ONLY thing you cannot buy with that type of currency is a Live Gold subscription everything else can be bought with that currency.

 

Thanks, I tried purchasing AC: Black Flag through the website store, and the Microsoft support rep said the reason I couldn't was because it was a third-party game and Ubisoft didn't allow that currency.

 

It's a shame how much support gets wrong. Hope it all worked out for you.
