1. What cable do I use to run the Original Xbox in 720p

Hi Xbox associates and subsidiaries, I'm contacting you today in regards to the Original Xbox and running it in 720p. I've been doing some research and by what I can gather and what I've read off the box in which my Original Xbox came in, Xbox indeed does
run in HDTV BUT with some conditions, unfortunately not all games based on the original Xbox were built for HDTV and usually will not run no higher than 480p unless in the possession of a 'softmodded' console that has been altered to run all Original Xbox
games in HD. But I am not to intrigued in modifying my console just to make some games that where partially not built to run in HD to make them run in HD. Now just to clarify a lot of people are confused on whether the Original Xbox supports HDTV well like
I stated early it 100% does but it does depend on what game you're playing and what definition that game supports, some people are lead to believe you HAVE to have a softmodded console to gain HDTV well this is totally incorrect as what I also stated up top
is that this only gives you the ability to run ALL Original Xbox games in HD (Those that were not built for HD), which in my opinion is pointless. Now I did come across some interesting information in regards to the region coded PAL consoles. Now apparently,
there was a point of time where apparently, Microsoft altered the firmware in the PAL region consoles restricting them from outputting 720p (HDTV), now I am unsure whether this is true or not or nothing more but a myth, but either way by what I've gathered
overall, it does sound like this was no more but a myth as everything else stacks up against it.

In conclusion, I'd really appreciate if you could get back to me as soon as possible suggesting to me what cable I should use on a PAL reigned Original Xbox Console and get a definition of 720p, not including those few games that don't support HDTV. I've
done some research and by what I could also gather once again, Original Xbox will only run of a variety of cables such as:

· VGA, Component (YPbPr), SCART, S-Video, Composite

But I am unsure if these are all and the only supported cables or even the correct one to use, if you could please get back to me suggesting which cable to use to archive no lower than 720p (except those few games) I’d appreciate it dearly and also if you
do know any more information or any other cables that supports HDTV on the Original Xbox please do not hesitate to get back in contact with me, and last but not least I hope the extra information I put together in this request does clear a few things up
for those people that are asking similar if not the same question, thanks, yours truly Cameron.

:)

Component v Hdmi question

No, do not buy a new Xbox for HDMI capabilities. I've found that the difference in 720p quality of Component and HDMI to be null on a 720p display. I cannot comment on 1080p though. Most games are made native 720p anyway and upscaled to 1080p which leads
to many games actually looking the same or sometimes sharper on 720p displays than 1080p. Only a handful are native 1080p. Some are even less than 720p. If you have a 1920x1080 resolution screen though. You may want to invest in a VGA cable. I used to use
the VGA cable over component on my old TV and run at 1440x900. Now that I have a new 1080p monitor, I run at 1920x1080 over the VGA and it is no different than using HDMI at 1080p. I highly recomend getting a VGA cable if your TV has an input for it. A VGA
cable will run you anywhere from $10-$30 depending on where and what brand you buy.

just upgraded my tv
What type of cables are you using? if your trying to get 1080p over component cables your Sony is not going to accept it you need to use a hdmi cable, try setting your Xbox to 720p on the dashboard.
Hi thanks. I am using an hdmi cable. I didn't try to set the 360 to 720p because I always thought that once you go bigger than 32'' you need a higher resolution.

Do you know what the other settings are on the 360? Reference color etc?

4. What cable do I use to run the Original Xbox in 720p

High definition output of the original Xbox is achieved through the use of
component cables
(red, blue, green), which allows the highest possible resolution output of
720p or 1080i.

You will need to purchase the
Microsoft Xbox High Definition AV Pack
(or some other third-party component adapter) in order to output HD resolutions from the original Xbox. NTSC-region Xbox consoles are able to output HD resolutions.

The modding scene for the original Xbox in HD happened for these two reasons:

- PAL systems had the ED/HD display modes removed.

- Some gamers wanted to force some games (that lacked even 480p 16:9 support) to output at a higher resolution than the game was designed.

Further discussion of modding is not allowed on the forums, so I'll leave it at that.

Keep in mind that only a handful of the original Xbox library of games are able to support 720p or 1080i, let alone 16:9 ratio or 480p. You can view the game list

5. Well, IZzReLaPsEzZI, you clearly have done your research. Whether or not you will actually see 720p will have to do more with your TV and how you connect to it. By definition and specifications, composite video has a total of 525i at 30fps for NTSC, and
626i at 25fps for PAL. And, with all due respect to Armenia, Belarus and a few others, SECAM is as dead as the former Soviet Union. S-video is just a bifurcated version (luminance and chrominance) of their composite video counterparts and are limited to the
same resolution. So, based on the physical connections available on your TV, the only way to get 720p is either by an analog component (YPbPr/RGB) or digital cable. Of those, the only ones currently available and supported by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 are
the HDMI Cable, Component HD AV Cable and VGA HD AV Cable (also the SCART adapter in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand), see "How to connect your
Xbox 360 S or original Xbox 360 to a TV
". Note, that because of possible DRM (Digital Rights Management) issues, the resolution via the Component HD AV Cable and SCART adapter maybe restricted. Therefore, depending on source material, the best way to ensure
that you are viewing the highest possible resolution from your Xbox is to use HDMI.

6. Thanks for the quick response and for verifying a few things for me, but does anybody know why Microsoft removed the 720p and 1080i output on PAL consoles and not NTSC? And are there any alternatives to still get high resolutions on the PAL regioned Orginal
Xbox's or is modifying my console the only option.

And just to clarify I'm not to fond of modifying my console nor modding in general, but because of Microsofts poor decision making they leave users without as choice as not mention it's unfair to PAL regioned users anyway. I only hope there's an alternative
or something else I can do without having to modifying or open up my console. I'm open for any suggestions. Thanks kind regards Cameron
