Physical power button? 90% of the time just use the controller to power on, but still liked just touching the glowing X every once in awhile...yes I'm easily amused. ;-)

Peace, J.R.

3. If you don't have a 4k TV then there is no point in upgrading to this. If you do and you care about UHD BDs then it's a no brainer, and is the reason why I will be upgrading.

What are your thoughts with the Xbox One Slim?

The Slim does have some positives. It's slimmer, can be stood upright. I don't think this thing will get very well ventilated though. It only has tiny circle holes punched in the console, like earlier Xbox 360 console versions. This worries me because it's
slimmer and the stuck an internal power BRICK in it. It won't get as good AIRFLOW in it as original Xbox 1 console versions. It's like when you custom build desktop PC's. You want a good case which ensures more than adequate AIRFLOW. I think it's why the original
Xbox 1 was launched how it was. They took extra precautions in ensuring this thing won't overheat.

@CryingFreeman. Same exact reason here. That 4k blu-ray drive makes it worth it's price.

Why can I not quote individual posts when replying to this thread?

I read with interest @Elohmn's assertion that Xbox One S supports HDMI 2.0, however according to High-DefDigest.com, if your A/V gear doesn't support HDCP 2.2, then you won't be able to playback UHD discs. I'm down with that, but the gray area for me is
whether my current A/V receiver (SONY STR-DN850) will throughput regular 1080p if I upgrade to Xbox One S - since I don't plan on buying a 4K television anytime soon.

I actually canceled a preorder for Xbox One S because I couldn't understand the difference between HDMI and HDCP. But surely if I just wanted to play my Xbox One games on the new console, and enjoy the larger HDD, then I should be good to go, right? What are your thoughts with the Xbox One Slim? ;)

It's not readily available anymore. They took away Quotes from these Forums a few years back. I manually copy/pasta the Text and use quote brackets.

The quote brackets look like-

[*quote user=""]Text Here[*/quote]

Just remove the red * and it would be a valid quote bracket.

As for the HDMI 2.0 and Xbox One S, sorry I can't give specifics per each TV. From what I have found is there are two types of HDR being used. You would have to check with the Manufacture of the TV to see if it supports HDR. imo not worth it from the Xbox One
S. Just wait till Scorpio comes out and you get a decent 4k UHDTV that supports HDR.

Thanks for the reply Elohmn!

For the sake of argument, let's dismiss HDR from my purchasing decisions. It may sound like a dumb question, but that's why I came to the Xbox support forums... because I don't know otherwise. Basically, I want to know if I can run the Xbox One S through
HDMI - without owning a 4K-compliant TV or receiver - and still play my Xbox One games in FHD.

Surely the Xbox brand is synonymous with GAMING and 4K media just feeds into some kind of future-forward trend. As I understand it, my current A/V receiver supports HDMI 2.0 (and allows 4K passthrough), but I just need to know whether the Xbox One S will
play nicely before I blow a wad on the system. It's not rocket science... or maybe I'm just 'dumb and dumber to'? :/

9. My thoughts would be that unless you are absolutely desperate for 4k media now, then the Xbox One S is a waste of money.

If you want a console go for the original Xbox One, which will be cheaper, and put the savings into a Scorpio fund. The Scorpio will after all give 4k media and 4k gaming.

BluSwirl, I'm not sure what you are asking for but if it is if the Xbox One S will Output Display at 1080p for a 1080p HDTV, then yes it will.

Keep in mind though, the Xbox One S will Output all Xbox One (and BC Games) at 4k Upscale as well. It is not just for Media but Games as well. This is Upscale though adn not Native. imo Upscale from 900p to 4k is going to look like butt, again better to wait
for the Scorpio to come out for Native 4k (or at least closer).

I guess the confusion arose because I read a caveat at High-DefDigest.com (apologies, but I can't link to the article because the Xbox One browser doesn't allow copy and paste) which warned against purchasing the Xbox One S if your TV/receiver *didn't* support
HDCP 2.2 decryption. This led me to believe that the console itself wouldn't function as intended - as a gaming console - unless you upgraded your A/V gear.

But I'm not interested in UHD playback, nor HDR, at this point. I just want to take advantage of the Xbox One S' new form factor, and the extra HDD storage... in effect, replacing my current Xbox One. I guess I can place that preorder again, right? What are your thoughts with the Xbox One Slim? ;)
What exactly is HDR and how is it supposed to make it better?
High Dynamic Range (HDR) is essentially a more true and corrected level of Colors and the Black Value. Remember the the "black crush" argument seen on the Xbox 360 and early trailers of even BF4 on the Xbox One? That is in part due
to not having a large enough range for accurate colors in a given black value.

In short, HDR will produce a cleaner and more accurate colored picture without sacrificing black values.

Not interested here. bought an Elite about three months ago and that will do. I have no need for 4k until I upgrade my TV which wont be at least until the end of the year. Probably just wait for the Scorpio.
