What are your One X thoughts now that you have it?

Very happy to hear the great feedback!! Wife wont let me open my X till Chrismas Eve!!! :-( Seeing the Brown box for the Microsoft store is driving me crazy!! She says it's a family Christmas present!! (we don't have kids!! LOL) I guess I'm the kid

 

I decided today to have a go on Fallout 3 and for a nine year old game it looks fantastic and the level of detail I can now see is fantastic I can't wait to see what the enhanced version of fallout 4 will look like.

 

Hey brandiesel1, believe it or not but your comments have helped with my decision whether to buy it or not. I've decided to buy it, I'll trade or sell my day 1 xb1 in the process and of course get the appropriate tv. I still play allot of Super famicom and
Sega Saturn so it might be a bit tricky with a more modern TV, I can always have 2 gaming tv's though.

 

Yeah this is a secondary selling point for me. Love my old games tbh.

 

I haven't played that one yet, but I saw a comparison video for it and it really is insane how good it looks.

 

I`ve moved to a One X (SE) straight from a 360 and the graphics left me speechless as bought a 4K TV a few months back.

First game on was Halo 5 and after a short wait (LOL) while it installed I was just blown away by the graphics, wow, just wow. Even the wife could not believe how good it looked.

The only thing I`m not too keen on is the way games don`t play straight from the disc like on the 360.

I`ll have a quick go on Halo 5 I said after setting up my Scorpio. And just over an hour later...........lol

Also, I think MS could have done with fitting at least a 2TB HDD though, as after initial updates you only have approx. 780GB to play with.

Especially with the initial cost of the console, as I have just had to spend extra on an external HDD.

 

Maybe I spoke too soon! Was playing the new Wolfenstein tonight and out of nowhere I hear, what at first sounded like, a drive spinning up to max; turns out it was the fan. By the second time it whirred up, a few minutes later, I got up to check the back
exhaust vents; very, very, warm. The hour or so playing Wolfenstein, the fan would spin up for about 3 seconds every 3 to 4 minutes. It did go down to a barely warm temperature about a minute after going back to the dash. First time I've noticed the fan since
setting it up on release day. Wonder if I was oblivious to the fan for a week, or it's going down the dark path? Lol.

 

Intetesting...keeping my fingers crossed that everything stays “cool” with your console. I don’t keep my TV electronics in an enclosed cabinet. It is just a shelf with no front or back, wonder if that would help.

 

So the past few days I’ve been playing Doom from a disc and it’s not getting very hot at all. It gets warmer when I play digital titles. I’ve been reading that it’s normal.

I do hear a fan once in a while but it’s very short.

 

It's ok but I'd be happier if there was more games to be excited about this year. Maybe I'd feel better if I had a DAY 1 ACHIEVEMENT for buying it. lol

So... where are all those 10 year olds who were super excited about the launch of the Xbox One X and counted it down a few days?

I would have thought that they would have made a post in this thread declaring it the most greatest thing ever and giving out some useless stats on its power. lol

 

It's a old school stereo cabinet with a glass door and a top that lifts up for a record player, got it at Goodwill for $7.00. Lol. Looks like new and fits perfectly between my dressers. Tonight I was playing with the top up and the glass door opened, fan
did the 3 second spin-up every 3 to 4 minutes. Took it out of the cabinet and set it on a dresser and got the same results. Put it back in the cabinet. After about a hour and a half of playing Wolfenstein the fan stopped doing the 3 second spin-up and seem
to be constantly on, albeit at a much lower level. Watch movies all day and night, and you'd never know it had a fan. Playing Forza: Fast & Furious doesn't seen to trigger the fan, neither did Ninja Gaiden: Black. Just might have to swap the X out for the
S in the living room...maybe the fan sound will be less annoying sitting farther away and having the volume up. Lol.

Checked their profiles, and the LOUDEST among them has been inactive for seven days! The only traces left behind are some 'super-duper' Minecraft clips - I'm guessing these were recorded @1080p. Makes sense really, because if you had bought a 4k-capable
console that could record clips in 4k, what's the point in recording in 4k if you're playing back on a 2k TV? Unless those clips *were* in 4k and I can't tell the difference because... Minecraft

But you make a very valid point, about having all this untapped power at your fingertips and nothing to do with it - apart from 'enhancing' old games ^_^ I celebrated the launch of Xbox One X by launching HZD: The Frozen Wilds on the competing platform!

The competing platform is pushing EXCLUSIVES in a big way!

And that makes me 'super-duper' sad as an Xbot :/

 

The fan on my PC's power supply most of the time doesn't even move, it only spins up when the computer starts generating a lot of heat, such as in an intense gaming session.

I suspect this is what is happening with the One X, it's idle most of the time, relying on passive cooling and then spins up when required. As to why you never noticed it before, if it only spins up during games then you were probably too involved in what was
happening on screen to notice.

Very odd that the console would get hotter when playing a digital title. You'd think it would be the other way around since you'd now have the heat generated, even if it was a very small amount, by the optical drive added into the mix.

Microsoft have given the Xbox One an image problem this generation starting with the botched launch. They do have some great exclusives but the problem is that they are exclusive Microsoft games and are on console and PC, this gives the impression to people
that the console doesn't have games of its own. As much as I think Play Anywhere is a great feature, I think they'd be better off pulling back their games from PC and focusing on changing the thoughts of people about the Xbox One.

 

Not sure how online play works for "anywhere" - is it cross platform - or xbox community towards other xbox?

And is xbox really getting enough gamers to match for various online stuff like co-op etc?

I really started to wonder reading some statistics on how many that unlocked achivements in a racing game I have.

I played about 4 hours gameplay - and was one of 11% that unlocked one achievement.

This was 6 months ago - and looked the other week having a go again - and this number was now 7% unlocked that.

So some new gamers came around - and even fewer unlocked this.

And I'm very casual on each game, as time span suggest, and not very good or advanced either.

Satisfaction and fun for me comes from progress - not how good I am in a larger community.

This was Dirt Rally - and it has been out now 16-24 months or something. Don't remember release date.

So how many was sold for xbox - like 10?

I really start to wonder.

Some other games too where I am one of 20-24% that unlocked something and similar - how many games are sold for xbox?

So are MS forced to expand to windows pc as well, to even have a community, or?

Or just try to strengthen the brand:

a) worlds most powerful console

b) better BC than any other platform

c) Play anywhere

d) game pass(is that unique, don't know exactly what it is - like pushing a certain game a period in time to get enough gamers for online play).

e) MS is loosing out to Android and Apple tablets/pads/phones - and windows sold drop since most households manage fine without pc of any sort.

I mean Microsoft is built almost entirely on Windows. Then some office products etc. so pc gaming is growing importance, kind of. Gaming on WindowsPhone, does it even exist?

My bank Forex does not even bother to make an app for Windows Phone os.

So personally I think Play Anywhere is part of larger strategy for Microsofts brands.
