What are you using HDMI in for?

I just recently got an XBOX ONE and after setting it up I started to think of ways to better use the HDMI in. I live in canada and have no use for the cable box guide as I have cancelled cable. What I do have is a Chromecast laying around so I plugged that
in and now have streaming Songza, VEVO, Youtube, etc. all that snap to the side so I can continue gaming. I also have Plex server installed on my computer and use Bubble UPNP on my android phone to send music and movies to the Chromecast (or my XBOX ONE if
i'm not going to snap). That got me wondering what other brilliant ideas people have for their HDMI in?

    :)

What HDMI cable are you using?

Since, Microsoft was being cheap and only providing one HDMI cord. I think that many of our TV issues could be caused by a inferior HDMI cable.

I just currently switched from a Amazon/Chinese no name HDMI cable. I used this same cable for my Xbox 360 and for my MAC to DVI to HDMI adapter to display on my TV. So, HDMI works perfectly fine.

I was experience problems using my TV through the XB1 where my signal would be dropped. This happened 1 week after getting the XB1. Then, it would last less than 1 day with signal. I would constantly need to hard reset the system.

Someone mentioned about the HDCP and handshaking with the systems. I had no clue about that stuff with HDMI.

I googled "best HDMI cable" and got this site. Best HDMI Cables of 2018 - 4K, 3D and HDR Compatible Cables

Went to Amazon and found the Monster1000HD for $20 bucks. The wires I was using cost $10 bucks for a 3 pack of no names, which probably didn't have of the required HDCP features.

So, with this cable I'm able to keep my TV signal for 2 days straight now. I'm going to have to move my system closer to the connections as the HDMI cable is only 1 Meter.

2 meter cost so much more. I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping this is the reason why.

I'm not a fan of Monster at all, but the website stated it has 17.8 Gbps bandwidth. And it has all the compliances (RoHS, HDCP, CL3)

Basically, everything HDMI can have its all checked off.

    Verizon QIP7100 STB HDMI > XB1 > TV & S Optical to AVR.

AVR is only hooked up to speakers and gets sound from xbox S-optical. Xbox1 HDMI to the TV's HDMI 2 port. My HDMI 1 port is the ARC.

Settings I have changed on the STB are just 1080i, Stereo Sound, SD Off and just normal/default for any visual enhancements.

I have a WDTV aswell, love all the filetypes it can playback and can only dream they would open up the xbox to playback all filetypes. I like the chromecasts app support (like songza for example) and am using it as a substitute for the lack of music playback
    while gaming.

I have 16TB of movies/tv shows all in raw .iso files, have a TIVO that I don't want to run through the HDMI as it works well stand alone. All my boxes (and xbox one) are contolled through my harmony one remote. I really don't stream music much....

How do you stream your .iso? Do you use a server like plex or are hardwired to the WDTV? I use to use the on screen library on my WDTV to find the movie I like and play it but now I use Bubble UPNP, that way I can make playlists and remotely pause/play and
and adjust volume etc. I have mainly HD TV shows and Movies so I prefer the MKV format.

What are you using HDMI in for?

I am hardwired into my own network (with several drives). Each drive has a separate group of movies... One is movies A-H, another I-Z, another is TV shows, another animation, multi part movies (like LOTR, James Bond, etc.) WD organizes them well enough for
me as they are all alphabetized. I have .mkv, .mp4, and several other types, but most are .iso raw. That is why I like the WD, it plays nearly anything you throw at it.

Why do you use ISO's? Do u get the menus from the blurays that way? Do u see cover art for your movies when u browse them? that was one of the selling points that sold me on plex, and its auto organizing of the titles in catagories ( release date, unwatched,
    genre,title,etc)

    Merlin4421,

I know huh, I had the HDMI empty for a few days until the idea hit me. Theres got to be some other brilliant ideas on what to put there. I'm hoping someone shares it here.

The software I use rips and writes .iso really well. Allows me to write on a disc and throw it in a conventional player with ease. I can also easily mount an .iso on my computers.

What are you using HDMI in for?

Personally I prefer the MKV that way I save space by having only the movie and none of the extras. I'm really hoping they release a plex app for the XBOX ONE and open up filetype compatibility. Regardless my WDTV, Chromecast and Blu-ray player will allow
    me to stream them already.

Supposedly a Plex app for xbox one is in beta testing. I don't use Plex because of file restrictions.
